Wonderful stuff and well done to them all.I do wonder whether the residential home or care services could’ve done more whilst he was alive to keep him in touch with other veterans maybe via benevolent organisations.

It’s not something all veterans are interested in.

As always cost will be the deciding factor will be money, although I expect the food / drinks bill for the Top Brass will be higher 😀

That is one thing for which there can be no doubt. Lots of superannuated gold braid in attendance.

Perhaps they could hold something at Duxford ? Historic aircraft flying past first, followed by current RAF aircraft
(both of them). With historic no flyers available for her Maj to look at.

This would get over the problem of some aircraft not being allowed to fly over London.

Still have the Churchill Crown that I got at the time .

I still have a couple of those somewhere which my Mother bought. There must be a lot of them still about ?

Any celebratory flypasts would be heavily dependant on privately owned aircraft.
If they relied on current types, I fear any flypast by the RAF would be over very quickly.

I remember seeing the practice flypast in 1977 when I was working at Hatfield Peverel.
Impressive it certainly was, and I didn’t have a camera with me 🙁

I have a vague recollection of watching it on TV..

After listening to all the furious arguments and comments over the last few days, has anyone got a clue as to what would be an effective means of preventing these attacks – whatever the motivation ?

It might be a help if we could stop those who go abroad to fight, from coming back into the country.

Trouble is, we have organizations queueing up to say this denies them their human rights.

I know when we were having our base tour of Lakenheath, the young female sergeant showing us around
said that she and her husband chose to live off base. As living on base made you too handy.

I would guess the same applies to Mildenhall.

I wonder what it would cost to keep it on a care and maintenance basis for any length of time? It may not be needed now but you never know, for the future …

Those are my thoughts. Times change, and you never know when it might be needed.

Never say never. Our government always seem to come up with the money when it suits them.
Especially with an election coming up.

Of course this doesn’t even come close to making a commitment, but it could mean light at the end of a tunnel ?

It would be a crying shame if the infrastructure was not kept intact, and in working order. They have everything there.

I remember the person giving our base tour saying, that someone could be deployed to Mildenhall on a two year tour,
and never have to leave the base for anything they needed.

I doubt that ever happened though 🙂
