Dutch Children still learn about Operation Manna at the primary schools.

That’s nice to hear, especially as it seems a lot of British children have no idea what D-Day was. 🙁

I came across this thread while looking for anything to do with RAF Mepal. As I was talking to my Dad this morning
and found that he was based there at the time of the D-Day landings. He was a fitter working on Lancasters.

I was watching the film several years ago, on a Saturday afternoon. I kept thinking to myself,
“there’s something different about this”, and it took me a while to realize what.
It was a colourized cut of the film, which I hadn’t seen before or seen again.

What’s the Grace Spitfire doing at Duxford ?, as we saw it in the hangar just before the D-Day airshow.
I thought it spent most of it’s time at Bentwaters ?

I would also assume that as it’s doing a flypast on Sunday 29th June – Old Warden, Beds.
It’s doing a display somewhere else that day ?

Possibly, if their landing fees are cheaper than those at Southend. Which I believe are now the best part of £30
    for a small aircraft.

I wonder if those who find the Vulcan display “boring” or “run of the mill”, attend a lot of airshows during the course of the year ?
Do they also find the Red Arrows, and BBMF boring ?
Since XH558 came back to our skies, I have seen her twice. Once at an airshow, and once for a couple of fly pasts.
I just hope I can see her fly again before she is grounded for good. I’ve certainly never found the Vulcan boring to watch.
I wonder how quickly people would take to get “bored”, if we had a lightning flying in the UK again ?

Does Southend get much in the way of historics, including airliners passing through? Perhaps you could start a Southend diary for us – ala Duxford and North Weald.

    Rob

There are already others who have far more inside info as to what is coming and going at Southend, and take far better pictures.
I don’t live that close either (5miles), but thought the short trip worthwhile for this one.
We don’t get as many historic aircraft coming into Southend as was once the case. Most just coming in for customs clearance.
I assume Duxford handle that themselves now. Unless historic aircraft are exempt ?
Quite a few airliners come in for maintenance or paint jobs, that’s apart from Eazyjet Airbuses, and Flybe aircraft.

I believe this Buchon was flying back from Belgium with a Spitfire, but reported low fuel and had to land.

Photoshop seems to be a little fussy over which RAW files it will handle. I will try ACR

I did try RawTherapee (albeit briefly), I can’t say that I was that impressed.

I do like Lightroom though, and I think I may stick with that.

What a character, what a life.

It’s amazing to think that one man could have done so much in his life.

Also, there is still the feeling left over from the days of 35mm, that you must fill the frame.
Something I unfortunately still tend to try and do. If you have 12 or 24 mp to play with, there is plenty of
    latitude for cropping.

I just hope those who work tirelessly to keep the Vulcan in the air, aren’t reading some of the comments on here. 🙁
