So, as it is one hundred years since the start of the First World War, how about a bit of gentle revisionism?

Going by the comments from Dan Snow, this has already started.

Something else which is not often mentioned, is the propaganda war. Aimed both at the British public, as well as the Germans.

Many of the film clips you see of soldiers “going over the top”, and picking their way through the barbed wire, were filmed way
behind the front lines, and sometimes here in the UK. This continued into WWI, where there were instances of British troops
wearing German uniforms, to act as POWs

There is no such thing as certainty, and we already use the ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ burden of proof to convict people of all felonies, so there would have to be an even higher level of proof than that.

I disagree, there have over the years been cases where there is no doubt whatsoever.

Then again, how often do you see the captain or first officer ?
Someone may say at the beginning of the flight who is sitting up front, but I find most of the announcements unintelligible.

You certainly hear a lot of female aircrew talking to ATC, so I would guess those figures are a little out of date.

If children have an interest in the history of WWI (or WWII come to that), there are regularly documentaries telling us of
various aspects of both World Wars. They could even read any of the thousands of books on the subject.
I suspect that the vast majority of children nowadays have little or no interest in War, and will probably not watch any
programmes about the start of WWI. Especially if they clash with their favourite soap or unreality show.

My Grandfather was wounded twice on the Somme, and taken prisoner. I don’t recall him ever talking about his experiences, not many did.

Fantastic to see, but very surprising and confusing.

I wonder if it’s just a flight or two, prior to it being sold. As I thought Thunder City had packed up.
Like many others, after the pretty damning accident report, I never expected a Lightning to be allowed back into the South African skies.

One thing you can guarantee. Unlike what has happened in the USA, it will not lead to cheaper power.

More use should be made of tidal power.

How many have experienced their local airfield being transformed into a solar power farm ?

Spitfire! That’s what got me thinking, most GG’s I’ve seen are WW2 or later. I’ve never heard of aircraft prior to that being used. did stations have them in the 1920’s or 30’s ? Or maybe it was a case of they wouldn’t withstand the weather being made of wood and doped linen. I know Army bases and Navy bases displayed guns, cannons, ship’s figureheads etc and it probably is an extension of that but I am curious as to when it started.

I recall seeing either a Spitfire or Hurricane on the gate at Debden, and later a meteor I think ?
I also remember the tanks “Romulus” and “Remus” on the gate at Castle Martin in South Wales. I expect they are gone now ?
That was when the German army were there.
