Which is why there seems such a gulf between this series and the previous one made many years ago.
They didn’t have the “comfort blanket” of the mobile phone back then. š
Having watched the first episode over the weekend, I was left with a feeling
of Deja Vu. I was also amazed at how uninformed some of the candidates
were, as to what was expected of them.
Surely to go to a place like that, you need a certain level of intelligence, and
have a rough idea what to expect ? It would seem that I am wrong. š
Unless the programme makers just concentrate on the extremes, or the
eccentrics ?
I would like to think that the officers leading our young lads, were good
leaders. Rather than being proficient at knowing how to conduct themselves
at the regimental banquet.

You don’t say where you are.
My wife and I stayed at the Leagate Inn at Coningsby, a few years ago.

Handy for the BBMF and East Kirkby. Lots of other interesting places to visit in
the area.
I look forward to watching the programme in October.
I remember as a youngster, back in the early 60’s, we used to go camping on
the farm at RAF Hunsdon. Back then the runway was still intact, although I
was too young to know anything of the airfield’s history.
I was more interested in fishing in one of the ponds.
Looking on Google maps, it’s nice to see that the airfield is still being used for
light aviation.
Was the two seater which was involved in a fatal crash (Goodwood ?)
rebuilt ?
Nice video š
A couple of questions:
How many two seaters are there now ?
Does having the panels removed, get around the overheating problems, or
are there still limits on how long you can ground run for ?
Spitfire over Billericay approx 17.00
Maybe the one I heard talking to Southend ATC earlier in the afternoon ?
That I think had flown from Kent ?
Also heard the Red Arrows in the far distance, at about 3 o’clock.
Was there a display somewhere ?
Seawing are not ‘going’, they are relocating elsewhere within the airport.
Thats what I meant, they have to move. Which is something that has been known since the work started
If you consider catering in the new one could be too expensive, AND the cafe in the old does close, then there is always McDonalds at a good price.:)
I don’t think I’d ever be that desperate š
I’m sure there is lots of ‘word’ doing the rounds, much of it not necessarily 100% accurate.
The bit about Seawing and the surrounding buildings is accurate.
Where are they going to park the Vulcan ?
Very nice pictures š
It seems that as soon as the new terminal opens, the old one, along with the cafe, will close.
The new restaurant could be expensive for those just wanting a cup of tea, or early morning breakfast,
compared to the existing cafe.
Word is that Seawing flying club, and the Lancaster club have to go in the very near future, presumably
along with XL426, as their storage building will be going ? They want the area for car parking.
Not a bad programme, although I found the background music rather annoying at times.
I’d like to see a similar programme on the Hurricane š
Seen over Rayleigh Weir (A.127) at about 15:40 this afternoon. I assume it had been into Southend ?
Circled overhead about three times, then went off to the west. Just had time to grab the Powershot.
Blown up and de-shadowed with Photoshop.
Possibly ZA299 code āDā ROYAL NAVY 845 SQN HC-4 ā YEOVILTON ?

A minor update:
Catering at the new terminal will br run by Searcys who manage the champagne bat at St Pancras & the Gerkin, they will have two outlets one in departures the other landside next to arrivals, as part of the deal 80% of all ingredients used must be sourced within 25 miles of the airport.
Are they going to keep the Cafe in the old terminal ?
Repeated Saturday night, 10:35pm
I expect they still have the fancy dress passing out parade, and the horse going up the steps ?
I imagine there will also be the tearful cadets, on the phone to their mum š
