Halfords.*

A few minutes later, my bike reappeared. Will informed me that the mechanic wished to offer me a free service for my bike as a goodwill gesture. Having heard some horror stories about Halfords standards, I politely declined.

I live literally right next door to a Halfords, and have only used them once, for an MOT. It passed, but they told me
lots of things needed doing.
I gave my van to a mechanic friend, who told me there was nothing wrong with it. He said that the fitters who worked
there were on bonuses for every item they replaced. So it was in their interests to find lots of jobs to do.

This has probably already been mentioned (?), but is it the police and/or local authority who have requested that
Duxford impose the advance booking option ?, to avoid traffic congestion.

Military Fire crews are trained in the handling/de-activation/make safe of explosives on cockpits and ejector seats just as they are with the treatment of weapons. I don’t think its something civilian firemen train for.

It was something that certain members of the police force were trained for (maybe still are). It was either part of the
M11 or M25 that was designated as an emergency landing area. So police we trained how to make seats safe.

It was aimed at you; do you really think it is ‘unfair’ to have to pay a little bit more when you expect to get more?

In addition to going to Duxford on Friday do you go to the Flying Legends on Saturday or Sunday?

What more are those of us who only go on the Friday, guaranteed to get ? We’ve been to Duxford several times in 2015, and
consider we have already made a reasonable financial contribution. As well as our travel costs getting there.

No we don’t go on the airshow weekends. We don’t like crowds, we don’t appreciate loud commentaries. I like to park close to where I am going, and dislike having to queue for food or toilets. Then of course, there is the cost of entry.

Mostly things that didn’t worry me when I was a lot younger.

One other consideration with pre booking, not knowing what is going to be flying. Could mean disappointment if you
pre book for Saturday, and the star of the show is only flying on Sunday.

IWM Duxford, rather than The Fighter Collection you mean? Why shouldn’t they…

…after all, it isn’t your right to get a unique bonus ‘flying display’ for no extra cost is it?

I’m not sure who that was aimed at ?

Probably only a matter of time before they start charging extra for going on the Friday.

Nice pictures. The Lincoln brings back memories, when it was parked next to the railway line at Southend
for a while. (Where the station is now)
Myself and a few other members of our ATC squadron (Rayleigh 1476), went over there to help remove the
civil registration markings.

Not a subject that I know anything about. Although I would have thought (at a guess) that the first thing to do,
would be to do a survey and ask how much people would be prepared to pay.

I found a tenuous link to aviation regarding this railway line, thanks to a cousin of mine who grew up in Laindon.

Looking in the mirror when arriving home to see black sooty streaks on ones face. These were taken near Hadleigh Castle, on the Southend to Fenchurch St. Line. On it way to Winchester for the day.
It’s brought back by a diesel.
