Found them!XV228 had a minor misshap while landing at Port Stanley. She landed short and hit the water. The wheels hit the bed and threw stones up through the flaps hence the ‘nose art’ “Have flaps will travel”… She was also given a day glow arrestor hook and a fish! I’ve not seen any other photos of her like this so I have they’ll be of interest to some of you.

Attached are a couple of slide scans that my old man took. He’s an ex nimrod man!

I’ve got some more somewhere of XV228 with day glow nose and tail markings after a small misshap and resulted in her going for a little swim! I’ll see if I can dig them out!
does anyone know whats to happen to her.. I couldnt bare to see her going into the melting pot. I hope she can be saved, like many of the others, ???… even if she is pretty much stuck in the mud lol.
Although I dont know exactly where she is going, I understand that her future is secure, and she wont be turned into coke cans
Donβt know about E-**Y, but I did speak with the current owner back in the summer and even wrote to them. They were very helpful but IMHO their five figure price tag was a bit βover the top!β
Then you did a lot better than I did! NO ONE would return my calls… E-mails were eventually replied to… note I say replied to and not answered. I just found them very hard to deal with. I had a plan that would not only help secure the aircraft, but would also help improve the site… Not interested!
As for the 5 figure sum… ye, way over the top. It’s a shame because she’s a nice aircraft and worthy of a secure future!
For anyone with deep pockets – there’s also a Lightning (XS919) available in Nottinghamshire! π
Advertised on ebay for Β£10K and no one wanted it!
I have to say, good luck if you want to buy this one too… I found the current owners very hard to deal with!
I really dont see what the council can do here. I would be very surprised if they had any power to force it’s removal off site. It has been there for so long that its not contravening any planning law and it’s on private land… I dont think that there is much that the council can do about it (and to be honest, I’m quite pleased about that!!!)

What horrific reading :(:(:(
In regards to the Auster
I remember seeing some cowlings etc for sale a few week’s ago on Ebay from an Auster.
Were these from the Lasham example? π
No… The Lasham auster was an AOP9. The ones of e-bay were of an AOP6 / Gipsy major auster!
I persoanly would rather see the airworthy example kept airworty, i knew a few people who were interested in it. And rather see the lasham example preserved in a museum.
There’s sadly not enough flyers π
Just my thoughts
Weren’t you looking at taking on the Prentice with a group of others? What happened to that?
Too English…
I think I’d have thought about that before I’d commissioned a full size Lancaster to by built. It just sounds like an excuse to me.
Great…. Thank you very much for your reply.
Good news indeed. The AOP9 has also found an appropriate home with another 6 of the breed already resident!
Martin
Thats great news… Can you tell us, what sort of condition is she in? Are you able to post some photos of her next time you ‘down the field’?
It will call come out in time, but for now I dont think anything has been made public just yet. I understand that the AOP9 left for her new home this week.
Like Bruce said…….
Do you want something that is ready for display or would you consider a project? Have you any idea on a budget?
