I used to be in the ROC with a chap who did overhauls on Beverleys, coming home from Aden,he said he filled 3 toolboxs with tools out of its wing spaces including lump hammers! also enough sand to re-sand Blackpool.

    regards
    jack…

Some time, long ago, I recounted a incident where I had been one of a few suspects of leaving tools in the Beverley wing crawl spaces. The plane nearly came to a disastrous end when a screw-drive jammed the aileron controls. It was later thought to have been there since the aircraft was built. Those same areas where also a good place to smuggle stuff into Blighty as most customs men were over weight and couldn’t get down there. Certainly not for those of you who suffer from Claustrophobia.

Lightning Mate, is skytrain10’s answer correct? If it is not, please say so and provide a clue in accordance with the rules. This thread has been ‘stuck’ for nearly 48 hours and in must be in everyone’s interest for it to move on, one way or another. Many thanks.

    Sorry for the interruption, but……….
I used to enjoy this thread but nowadays, way too much chat.

    A very poor thread title.
There are F-111’s sprinkled all over Australia in various museums.
    Which one is the last…???

Surely it would have been the last one NOT in a museum, which by all accounts, this was.:dev2:

Although transport planes (except Blackburn Beverley) are not my thing, I have to admit that the Connie is one of the most beautiful, stylized planes ever designed. It’s great to see them being restored and flown. I just wish we could say the same for the Bev.(Ex 47 Sqdn)

When I was stationed at Seletar to support the Lightnings (air radar M.U.) I heard a story that told of a Warrant Officer who was deployed on a cargo ship on which several Lightnings were stowed as deck cargo. Although fully cocooned, sea water had gotten in through some tears and the plane/s was/were severely corroded. It was said that the W.O. was pissed all the way from Blighty to Singa’s and got himself court marshaled.

Accidentally threw a 6 cylinder, 3.3litre, Cortina TD into park one day. 60klm/hr to zero in a cloud of smoke. Gearbox, undamaged.
