There would have been no need as the major powers had already recognised the potential of jet engines.Rear engine cooling would probably rear its ugly head(if you excuse the pun);)

Flippin eck Victor, are you the duty thread starter or something 😀

sorry to take so much forum space up,ive got a avid thought train 😎 😎

No matter how partisan you are there is only one answer. RR Merlin. By the way the BMW139 powered the prototype FW190, but was bigger and heavier than the newer 801

didnt the merlin lack fuel injection ? and i know later marques improved performance but all in all i feel the british aero engines fell behind german technology, i appreciate their jet engines were somewhat unreliable ie. 262 /arado but overall their enginerering prowess outshone ours, dont forget their tech boys had day and night bombing to contend with but still produced the goods,i consider the FW 190 the ultimate ww2 fighter plane despite its heavier powerplant, its clean lines and superb handling outclassed the spit/hurricane Galland rated the aircraft and his opinion will certainly “do for me” 😎

It was – see the Cessna 336 and 337 series.

thanks for the info ,ive just looked on a site and viewed the 336 ,its certainly done the deed as it were but lacks the graceful lines of the 335 mnot a pretty aircraft at all (in my opinion that is) thankyou again

There is no need to quote the entire post directly above yours – Moggy

i agree with your commrnts, however these road traffic officers who ply up and down the motorways are simply causing mayhem by their actions stopping by a broken down vehicle on the hard shoulder then causing holdups by coneing off the area when it doesnt require this action, blocking the lane with the ensuing snarl up the result and al;so stopping on the hard shoulder observing traffic its enough having the police to contend with and their convoy antics let alone these people its like a circus at times.

    Hello,
I’m a Drummer, so not really qualified to comment on the Strat’s playing qualities. However, as an ICON it probably has no equal in the musical world! They DO have to be Fiesta Red though!
On the subject of Design Icons, what do you think of the following? (in no particular order of merit):
    Napier Deltic Diesel Engine.
Vespa Scooter (NOT the current one – the original all-steel one).
    Eames Chair.
    Avro Vulcan.
What are YOUR favourite Design Icons?
    Regards
    Paul

Why would a rare airframe (even then) be recovered at great effort, only to be scrapped?

this idea continues on today recovering rare airframes and leaving them to rot

    Dear All,
Some years ago at North Coates aeroclub I was given some old black and white negatives by another member. The negatives I was told show some Daks at Humberside way back when?. I’ve not had a scanner that will scan negatices until this week. So to clear my conscience for not having done something sooner and to test the scanner here they are. I hope they are of interest to some of the forum readers.

For those interested in such things, the film was Ilford’s HP5. Its way grainer than film I would shoot back in my film shooting days. I don’t think the photographer was the great with his processing. But thats “vintage” for you. I think I must have been one of hte last of my generation to learn how to process film.

I’d be interested to know more if anyone has any background inforamtion. The latter two shots show aircraft in the colours of “Eastern Airways”, I don’t recall them, but I do recal lteh hanger still being painted withthe “Anglia” logo when they still used to have an airshow at Humberside in the early eighties.

    Regards
    Radiochris

i think freddie laker owned “skyways” and as he bought up ex military aircraft these could be freddies babies ,nice photos very clear, thanks for sharing them

thankyou for the responses, in the final analysis theres the old addage .”if something is working well, why change it ” they were utterly reliable not overly complex and people liked them. its rather like changing the shape of londons underground train tunnels to square shaped isnt it ,point being ,theres no point end of:cool: 😎 😎
