One more RF141 question please gents if I may.
Can anyone see from their pictures whether she had the small B.I or the taller B.III astrodome please.
Starfire,I’ve really started to look at this kit now and have spotted one or two noticable ommisions from the interior.
1.Bombsight/mounting bracket
2.Bomb aimer’s cushions on his compartment floor.
3.Handrails down into the bomb aimer’s compartment.
4.Flight engineer’s “dicky”seat, usally folded up between the main instrument panel and his own panel and protuding just above the canopy sill line.
I would have thought that for how much effort Revell have put into this kit they’d have included those because they’re very visible through the canopy
and/or nose blister.
They’ve put in fair representations of the flight engineer’s panel, the bomb sight computer, bomb release and release timer control panels.

I think the towel rail you are referring to is for the early Lorenz type Blind Landing system.
As RF141 had the Rebecca/BABS system, I doubt it would have had the other type.
I wondered if that was it’s use!!
I’ve been searching the web to see if I could find out.Plenty of references to the system, but very, very few of the actual antenna itself.
Thanks again 682al,I’ll leave it off.A bit more for the spares box methinks:)
Mark
I strongly suspect 682al,that you’re absolutely right.
It seems the mounting plate was fitted irrespective of whether the a/c had H2S,belly gun or neither fitted,in which case the mounting plate merely became a “blanking plate” to plug th’ole in the floor.
Cousin spadegrip reckon’s he’s seen the “towel rail” antennas on Stirlings,Hallys and Whitleys as well as Lancs and upon further investigation it appears that he’s correct too.
What’s even more apparent is that the towel rail appeared more so on a/c’s that were not H2S equipped, making it extremely probable that RF141 had
one fitted.
So there we are,one more piece of the “Uncle Joe Again”jigsaw in place.
Many thanks.
Mark
Wondered where you’d been hiding cuz:D .
Well,it’s a new one on me alright.I thought towel rails only went on post-war iron.
This now begs the question did RF141 have one fitted?
See,you’ve opened up another can of worms now:confused:
BTW,I’ll have some Hally II decs for you in a day or two if you’re a good lad.
Miggs:D
Wow starfire, many thanks for those hu’s.
I’ll be looking into getting a set of barrels and those wheels really look the part, much better than the kit items.
I’ve read and agree that the gun barrels and wheels are the only two areas that let the kit down.
I’m still unconvinced that wartime Lancs had that “towel-rail”aerial down by the H2S blister or that long “air-scoop” object that fits above the stb’d wing root.
Apart from that it’s excellent.
Mark:D
Well gents,I’ve certainly got enough to go on.
On the subject of the belly gun or H2S I’ll go with steve64 who’s spied a pic of her on page 62 of “Ton-up Lancs”(earlier in this thread).
He confirms she’s a BI with paddle blades and reckons you can just see enough aft to confirm there is no H2S blister.
Starfire,no she isn’t an option in the kit,but I’ve wanted to do an “Uncle Joe” Lanc for a long time, either ED611 “Uncle Joe” or RF141 “Uncle Joe Again” both marked JO*U and from 463 Sqn.
The other one I’d like to do is BIII ND635/AS*M “Fransdens Frolics” of 166 Sqn.
682al I normally model FAA subjects and Seafires are a minefield to get right!!
Happy New Year and many, many thanks gentlemen.
Mark:D 😀
Thanks for that T21.
I’ve almost got enough to go on now.
Just one more thing,do those pictures you have show whether there were the side observation blisters on the cockpit canopy or whether they were the flat panels?
Thanks for those links antoni.
Cheers,Mark:D
Can’t resist a good Lanc thread!
No H2S on this contemporary 463 Lanc!
Good bit of “zapping”.
I’ve already seen that pic,I looked just incase it was Uncle Joe.
Mark
I’ve been thrashing away at’em for a good 40 years now.
They’ve been FAA stuff for about the last 25 years.
I finished this one earlier this year,Kennett Aviation’s beautiful SX336.It is Airfix-ish,namely the wing(modded Spit Vb) with Matchbox tailplanes, modified Pegasus prop,Revell cockpit parts(panel and stick, the rest scratch built),but the fuselage,u/c and other bits are from the Aeroclub Seafire XVII conversion kit.
I’m currently bashing away at a Rareplanes Seafire FR.47 vacform and then it could be Trumpeter’s lovely Gannet,Special Hobby’s Sea Fury,Pavla’s Miles Martinet or the one that’s really running up the flag pole……..Revell’s fabulous new Lanc BI/III.
Mark
Lancaster at war 2 from Mrs Fluffy signed by 15 aircrew, 4 DFMs & 3 DFCs from various sqns.
I hope we get a looksee at that next September then.
I had the new Revell Lanc kit(it’s a corker too)and one of those micro rc helicopters.

Two very interesting pictures there Al.
Could she have had the H2S scanner and equipment removed?
Was it fitted onto the blanking plate for the lower turret?
This new kit I have has a blanking plate in it for a lower turret(even though the option to fit one isn’t??)and the H2S’s scanner fits into the centre of it.
Do you see what I’m getting at?,were the “gubbins” for the H2S actually mounted on that plate?.
That makes sense to me,just unplug the electrical connections, unbolt the plate and the entire unit can be removed as one.
It also looks like the pitot heads have also been removed and as you say a window chute low on the starboard side and,I find this most odd,no shrouds fitted.
She does look like the original cowlings are still fitted but, well, who knows?
It’s not surprising the state she’s in for eight months old,but then again, operational Lancs led the “outdoor lifestyle”,were worked hard and serviced well but weren’t “washed and waxed” very much at all.
Can you see in that picture whether she’s got Rebecca aerials fitted?
The colour profiles show that she has.
I’ve a colour profile of JO*Z/RA542,and she had no H2S fitted either but has
Rebecca and exhaust shrouds fitted.
The profile is dated as winter/spring 1945.
If that pic in the link is accurate, then there’s no H2S.
There is Rebecca antennas and also it looks like the square window on the underside behind the blister.
I’ve not got the books you mention either:mad: 😡 ..drat.
Mark
Isn’t there some sort of “eyelet” on the end of the nose?
You then have a hook in your drill, but only give it the prescribed number of turns otherwise you’ll pull the peg out at the backend where the elastic fixes to.
😀 😀 😀 😀
I’d best go and sit on the naughty step too then with Malcolm.
Miggers:p :p
Slightly off track I know, but another gaffe that always tickles me is when you see a German soldier blazing away with a Schmeisser with a 9,000 round magazine fitted to it that’s no bigger than a standard Schmeisser’s magazine.
It must be a touch of the Dr Who’s,you know,Tardis bigger on the inside than it looks from outside.
Miggers:rolleyes:
