Latest issue of AI mag. has an article on Greek F-16s, which is interesting enough, but one of the interviewees said somthing very interesting.

He said that whilst the F-16 is a better multi role platform, it cannot beat the Mirage 2000 in a dogfight. Since the Greek AF operates both types and the pilot in question had considerable experience on the F-16 I see no reason to doubt this on the grounds of biased opinion of experience in the field.

Personally i like both aircraft, but since i’m not in a position to give any evidence either way, thought subject might make interesting thread.

correct me,but greece AF Mirage -2000 did actually downed Turkish F-16 ,and 3 pakistani AF F-16 ,may fell victim to indian AF Mirage-2000(and mig-29)

the aircraft is simple to small to do damage to USN ship, but still highly effective against oil tanker.

iranian technology while not as advance, said china, but not backward either,I recall 3 years ago,i visited Hong Kong Exhibition hall library ,i come across iranian commercial section, surprise to discover iranian capable of producing digital telephone exchange and assorted industiral testing equipment.
according to chinese official comment about the levael of iranian technology, remind him of Chinese technology of 1980’s.

the quality of the pilots is even more important than the jets itself,,before Shah downfall, iranian fighter pilots honed by USAF and israel pilots probably the best fighter pilots in the islamic world, during the iran iraq war, iraqi, iranian pilots bested the iraqi pilot, from the first shoot in 1980 to 1988, iranian jets control the sky ,this despite the persecution by the mullah.
right now, much of original core either retire or immigrate ,combine with mismanagement buy the iranian government, the iranian AF right now, both in quality and quantity facing deterioration.

This somehow doesn’t sounds like IRNA and nothing like that is to be found on their site.

    Any link ?

    It seems to be fake.

drawing of this fighter first appear in JDW around 97(or 98?) issue, the airframe based on F-5,aside locally design fighter aircraft,JDW also reveal plan to reengine F-14 and F-4 with russian engine and avionic.

Y8 is the platform no matching of the E8’s B707 airframe, so the length of the Phased array SAR Radar may be the compromised result of Y8’s capacity and the requirement of the SAR. I still vote that it’s phased Array SAR radar.

    πŸ˜‰

with forward cabin been occupy by transmitter ,coolant, powersupply, and other associate electronic unit, that means there will enough room for 4~5 operator.

Phased array SAR radar for battlefield monitoring? πŸ˜€

odd choice for SAR antenna, most SAR ground mapping radar adapted long rectangular shape phase array antenna for bigger “footprint”.
was the antenna SAR or ELINT antenna, since still no official confirmation ,answer probably coming this during April 26th ,CIDEX exhibition held in beijing.

What are the capabilities of the J-7IIIs radar?
Is it better than the MiG-21MFs radar?

The J-7IIIs produced in small numbers. Why?
In the MiG-21 family, the MF was an important step forward.

What is this equipment under the “404” ?

What does it mean: J7IIA on the tail of the “9501555” ?

The “50156” has two types of air-to-air missiles.
Is this a test plane, or all operational J-7IIIs has these weapons?

As I know, China has just two regiments with J-7IIIs.
    The “green-sand” unit with 3006x & 3016x side-numbers.
    The “gray” unit with 2500x & 2510x side-numbers.
Maybe it means 2×10 planes in one unit?
    Hmmm..really few..

the radar was clone copy of Soviet high lark monopulse radar.
