Actually part of “Magical Mystery Tour” was filmed in Cornwall, some of it at Watergate Bay. I was at St. Mawgan at the time and the rumour was that the Beatles were invited to the sergeants mess, didn’t happen of course! Whole area was electric for about three days.

Watergate bay being right at the end of the runway and with MOTU, with its T.4 Shacks, on almost continuous circuits it was almost inevitable that one aircraft would get into shot.

I therefore believe that this is the reason that the Shackleton is in this film and can clearly remember seeing it when it was first released.

No way, considering the amount of certain substances consumed by the band at the time, they probably couldn’t remember whether they had ever been to Watergate Bay, I consider myself a bit of a Beatles officianado, my interest in the band started when they were lurking at the Cavern.
I can assure you that this nice big plane just happened to make an impression on the cameraman when he was filming at West Malling, are you seriously suggesting that this was planned, ‘Cool plane man, that looks nice, lets put it on the film’, along with anything else they could think of at the time, thats what the film is all about after all.

Hunter Vs F-86 Sabre (and family)?

Don’t knock it, the Hunter proved to be a great aircraft, there must have been air assimilation tests between Hunters and F-86’s, anyone aware of this and have results.

I like the bloke on the fence with his dog, it looks a bit like my Springer, except that my two ‘Erberts would have probably died of fright as soon as the mighty beast appeared on the distant horizon, quite right too.

Apparently it just happened to fly over West Malling when ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ was being filmed, anything to put a bit of life into an otherwise dire film, sorry Paul, well the whole concept was your idea!!
The Mossie CGI vid has been mentioned many times on here, some people are hoping that the Japanese gentleman that made it will be put to work on the ‘Dambusters’.

Just a very small question amongst the euphoria, why Cottesmore and not Waddington, it’s not that much further, I remember seeing a Vulcan scramble there at an airshow in 1958, had that got anything to do with it, or was it simply the nearest RAF base that was tooled up to deal with the beast.

Judging by previous comments made on this thread, and I put my tuppence worth in last year as well, I agree that this very contraversial subject should be left alone, as some of you folks have said, relatives of the deceased may be reading this and throwing in unproven allegations isn’t going to help anybody after all this time.

This has got nothing to do with the issues raised over the Invader crash, but I have to say that I once visited a small airshow, which I won’t mention by name, and found the display pilots in the beer tent supping pints, this was only a low key event involving mainly light aircraft, but nevertheless, I was quite surprised. The highlight of the display was a performance by a Spitfire, he landed and I was in the bar when the well known pilot came in, at once he was bombarded with offers of pints, at which point he looked quite appalled and refused and went for a glass of lemonade instead. We were then treated to a liquid fuelled display of barnstorming, it was very hairy too, I was glad to get home in one piece.
