    Great pictures Ian!

I too – like most people here – remember the Viscounts flying over head when I was knee high to a grass hopper!

The sound of their Darts was amazing.

In my case they were flying over Leicester on route to EMA – I saw one once with one prop stationary and a lot of smoke coming from the same engine!!

Later in life when I bought my own place (closer to EMA in Loughborough) I remember the same-but different sound of the Heralds – nearing their lifes end and also the very different sound of the trents on the Vangaurd – and the Belfast. – and all that is only 12 years ago!

Your right – Ive just been digging around on the web and come up with some interesting stuff regarding Miss Angela!

Anyone know if she ever came to the UK to WoGB?? – its not long ago but cant remember anything of this.

Jules – Iโ€™ve just had a great time in the west of the US for three weeks – managed to have a close look inside B17 ‘Miss Angela’ at Palmsprings air museum and B17 Sentimental Journey at CAF Arizona (Falcon Field – Mesa). Both of these places had great docents – met a number of B17 crew – great stories were told! – One guy told me he was dismayed when a teacher remarked to her class that the aircraft was from ww11 (eleven) !!

Also had a look at the B17 at Chino which requires a bit of work and the static example at March Field.

Thatโ€™s my fix (of B17’s and sun) till the season starts over here! ๐Ÿ™‚

Miss Angela even had carpet in the walkway to the nose! – she also had a rather interesting fold down rear entry door with a combined air stair!

Sentimental Journey had just been polished ready for the season – she looked fantastic. If only we had the weather SallyB would look great polished! ๐Ÿ™‚

    keep up the great work

    Hi Ollie

just come back from three weeks touring the west of the US – think big, get your self a sat nav and program in all your addresses and and relax! – best way to do it m8

the driving is easy – less hassle than over here – everyone takes there time and a 4 hour road trip feels like the equivilant to a 40 minute trip over here!

Enjoy! – my first day back at work today and feeling jetlagged – must plan my next trip!

had not heard about that !- I did hear that you nearly get gased on the first flight (from the design of the exhaust pipes which focused the exhaust straight into the cockpit)? or was that a myth?

    Great pics
Neal is that first pitts G flik? or something similar? – its just brought some memories back of seeing- what could be the same aircraft- at Leic at one of the airshows years ago?.

Have not been down to Leic for ages – since a trial flight about 8 years ago. Great place. No excuse as Im only 20 mins away!

I new a guy who helped a chap build an Evans V2? (two seat VW engine) – He based it at Leic and I went to see the first flight – piloted my Mr Skybolt!.

I wonder if that Evans is still around – it was painted as an eagle

The owner/builder also took me and my Dad up in a 172 for our very first flight – the day before my geography O level exam!! – weird how things like that stick in your mind!

I must try and get down to Leic this year for a looksy!

IIRC Its also worth noting that many early G models did not have chin turrets

Im not aware of any having their chin removed late in war but they probably did as many were modified on base

    E500

xpboy – how are you getting on with your E500?

Im tempted as I have not used a SLR for a while and I have a range of OM bodies and lenses sitting around doing nothing. It would seem to be a logical thing to do to get hold of a E500. Also you can get an OM adapter for the four/thirds mount. (you can also get a nikon and pentax adapter!!)

Does anyone know any limitations of using OM lenses on the E500? (well apart from the obvious – manual focus and double focal length)

    cheers
