When in Las Vagas in Feb there were plenty of ‘Janet??’ airways 737’s around – ie the white ones with a red stripe – used to transport staff to Area 51 I believe?
we drove from Las Vagas towards Death Valley and remember seeing a sign saying ‘last service station before area 51’ – but didnt see any mention of it after that – although you there was lots of flying going on around the area – saw a couple of pilotless drones taking off
couldnt see your pic link
I did look at the reg but Ive forgotten the last letter (well I was with the other half so I couldnt hang around!!) – it was definately U in the middle and I think it started with V
VH-VU?
sorry Steve not too helpful! – but Im back in sydney on Tuesday so will look out again!
talking of 737’s (sorry to hijack thread) recently got off a Virgin Blue 737 -800 and it had a fairing covering something on the top of the rear fuselage about 2m in front of the fin. It was in the shape of a horizontal disk, about 1m in circumference, the height of it was about 20cm above the apex of the fuselage – looked like a radar or something would be inside?
never seen this on a 737 before – any ideas (I didn’t get my camera out – sorry)
TT – hmmm sounds very exciting! great news
hey if you want any help in a couple of years when I get back from OZ!………
wonderful pics Tom – did you go flying in the dark? – wish I could have been there for a trip!
Rlangham – yes thats right – they were the orig catapillar gates – sorry got muddled up! – The house was interesting – I did some work on it for my teacher (new sash windows and restoration) and we had a good look round in the loft etc for any evidence of it belonging to the base – but we could never find anything – think my old teacher moved away a few years ago now after fully restoring it and adding a bit on the back
Im sure I also remember an aircraft been opperated from Desford in the late 1980’s??
Talking of Desford – I used to go to school nearby – there are – or were 15 years ago (ouch!) the main gates and Im sure a few hangers – and one of my teachers bought a house on the main road which goes past the old main entrance – The house was built in the early thirties and was reputed to be the station commanders residence.
great pics Muflon!
looks like it is the Vulcan as Malcolm says
I remember her looking like a big Corgi just after the last respray at DX with the outer wings removed – that was in the summer before she got stuck in the Channel isles for the winter!!- that soon weathered the paint.
This is great news that she has had a total respray as it will keep her protected for a few years! – looks like a great job too!
Anybody see if they painted inside too?
