On a quick scan Camel nightfighters seem to have been green (Nivo?)
NIVO was primarily post war – more likley to have jusy been PC10.

In what particular way…………..???
Re-arranging the furniture. BoB Hall has been a fixture for a long time, and those airframes displayed together. Seems a strange decision to split them up. Presumably they have other plans for the ‘building’ – RAF100 perhaps.
Those are big craft, we don’t have a good history of preserving large maritime objects in this country.
New CEO making her presence felt?
Talking of the Defiant – who did the restoration ??
I visited with a few friends recently – and we were struck by the colour of the roundels – they seemed very bright.
Surely they should be Dull Ident Red and Dull Ident Blue – like the Blenheim and Tiger Moth displayed either side of it.
It’s authentic Ken -it’s seen on sme Defiants – the red/blue on the upper roundels seemed to weater/fade faster than the fuselage. (Or they used different paint!)
Not the best repo photo:

In a time where experimental work was done either in the wind tunnel or by building a prototype, the Ho/Go was just the continuing line of a program or research into tail-less designs. Any ‘stealth’ arrtibutes are merely 80s affectations or a result of function- it may have had a lower radar return as it was made of wood, but those big intales are hardly ‘stealthy’.
In that regard there are plenty of British and American designs of the same period that reached similar or further development before being discarded.
Thanks Dave,
So glad someone is preserving the memories of this generation.
Interesting ‘smooth’ finish on the B-17
Decent arguement for one of these to be at Cosford for the Vold War Exhibition (Berlin Airlift and all that) and it was also an RAF type at one. Sad to say price and space would rule it out I suspect
Yes, you’ll probably never be able to sing ‘We Three Kings…’ again without stumbling, especially after some Christmas cheer.
I’m sure there was a Royal Navy drinking song along those lines
For sure it is. Personally some aspects of this unfolding story come as no surprise to me at all, I used the word predicable earlier.
Before reading the thread again having missed a part of the in between section, which I will do, and forgetting the recovery, how has it come about that once recovered it has been obtained by another party, if that is now the case.
What was supposed to be the plan after the container arrived at El Alamein, and how had or not the RAFM secured ownership of it. Little point going to all that trouble if you are essentially recovering it for ultimately someone else and ending up out of pocket.
It was posted earlier that the plan was to have a ceremony at El Alemein handing over the P-40 to the UK Govt – The Prime MInister or Foreign Secretary were mentioned as attendees. Then the Egyptian Govt changed.

Thanks to Tim, Mark and Pat for all the above comments, we now have a much clearer picture of the happenings of 2012.
My own beef has always been the complete public silence from RAFM
I beleive that’s the only photo that has surfaced so far
Wonderful though those Boston shots are, they still light years away from ‘Big Nig’ as seen here at Wangaratta in October 2013.
At that time the project and exchange had stalled, principally due to the Griffiths family tragedies but also the complex exchanges and deliverables that could not be fulfilled to secure vital parts to complete the Havoc/Boston.
The RAF Museum stretched and stretched the time scale to try and facilitate the deal and separately professional project management was also offered from the UK to complete the project…but it was not to be.
Mark
Thanks Mark
As a side line, I found a comment online that Z2186’s wing, rather than being scrapped, ended up at Norwich. Can anyone confirm that?
Were they?
As the Italian team never stated where they had found the remains, despite being asked, how do you expect anyone else to find them? Which direction are you going to go?
And people need to remember that the area to be searched increases exponentially by the square of the didstance you have walked. So 1 mile means ~3 sq mile to search, 2 miles is 12 sq miles and 3 miles is 28 Sq miles. How long would it take to find anything in that area?
