Thank you for posting some wonderfully atmospheric photos, especially the lighter types.
John
I was just about to post “I bet John Aeroclub will love these!!”
There was an article in FlyPast many Moons ago about an intact Defiant in a Scottish Loch. Apparently the gunner was drowned in the ditching. Can anyone expand on this?
I remember that came from the chap who was the Curator at East Fortune and went to EAA) Can’t recall his name – was it Adam Smith?) – he claimed that one of the Nessie hunts showed a side scan or sonar image that wa s a perfect match for the dimensions of the Defiant . This might have been about the time they bought the Beaufighter, when asked about future aquisitions..
Yes.
Good news!
Hopefully we’ll see her again one day then, as they get TE311 finished!
Does TB382 count as a survivor?
What I cant fathom out though is why they didnt fly one into Shawbury because Cosford was allways on the list to get a Nimrod MR2. Moving it from there to Cosford would be much easier and they have experience (Victor)
The Comet 1 went from Shawbury to Cosford.
And only the RAF could put their two major Museums at locations without adequate (or any) runways!!
I’d imagine they would be more likely to use CGI
Any pictures Dave?
No, not been yet – info was passed to me by someone else.
Last few years at Llanbedr, they used an Alpha Jet instead of a Hawk as the chase aircraft.
Dave F68, I have not heard anyone else say that they cannot see them, I certainly can but then thats probably because I put them there. If there is anything I need to do to fix this please let me know.
Not entirely sure – for example, I could see the ones in the thread with the P1127 fuselage, but I can’t now, similarly I can’t see the ones in this post – just get a message ‘hosted by tinypic’
Trying to look at the direct link, it won’t show – could be my browser/security suite causing the problem so I’ll try another PC/combination.
Really enjoying the pictures when I can see them!!:)
Is it just me that can’t see QuePee’s pics?
There are 4 Jindiviks in preservation:
East Fortune has now taken delivery of the forward fuselage of XV241. Delivered from Kinloss by lorry last week.
The Hector also had a straight upper wing, to take into account CoG issues with the napier engine IIRC – it had the dubious distinction of seeing active service in the bombing role duiring the Dunkirk retreat!
There were plenty of radial engined Hart derivatives, but most went to overseas or the experimental establishments.
The Fury and Nimrod were different (and separate) designs but shared a common structural construction method and engine.
TMorane-Saulnier A-1
Minor quibble -it’s Morane-Saulnier AI, not A-1. Bit like saying it’s a Spitfire 1X rather than IX.
