Apparently they have banned my IP address from that site! Most odd as I don’t think I’ve ever looked at it before!!
And mine!
I stand to be corrected, but I was under the impression that the ringed ‘P’ wasn’t specifically a prototype marking, but indicated that pilots notes were not available for that airframe?
I’d be surprised if much of it was re-manufactured – aircraft grade aluminium alloys come in a variety of different grades (based on thethe amount of hardening, % of trace elements etc involved)
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duralumin and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alclad
The amount of treatment you wouold need to give to scrap aluminium to purify and ensure the correct %s for trace elements to ensure proper hardening and corrosion resistance would possibly make it cheaper and easier to manufacture new stuff from bauxite.
Very nice!!
Is the red crowbar authentic ?:diablo::dev2::);)
Was this the aircraft photographed languishing at Tangmere post war ? I believe MPM or Special Hobby have a 1/72 scale kit with RAF markings as a decal option .
The Tangmere aircraft was a Fiat G-55 – neother it nor the Macchi 202 with 1426 Flight are beleived to have flown in the UK.
The only other picture I know of of the 205 is this one, from the AWM (although I do have a pic labelled 202 that MIGHT be the 205, if I could remember the difference!!)

3 RAAF also had a Macchi 202
A few more aviation ones, albeit not Africa

Why would the RAF Museum want a Sturmovik. The RAF never flew them or barring Korea ever fought against them.
Same as the Mig 15 and Mig 21 I suppose – and the Robinson R-22!!

XS713 was the only updated aircraft to carry the Red/white/grey scheme with the new nose, and you can clearly see the fairing in this shot:

Hmm, how about XS736 in Lima 1’s post??
Mmm, good spot – I must have missed that one as it was a RAF College aircraft and not at the FTS
‘Bravo November’. I’m confident that she will be earmarked for preservation if she survives intact into retirement. In the meantime, a plastic ‘BN’ fuselage representation sits in the Helicopter section (along with a EH101 Heliliner?) at RAFM Hendon.
The Hendon CHinook is NOT a plastic mock up – it’s based on the forward fuselage of an ex-US Army Chinook (83-24104 )that was donated after the original was replaced in the CH-47F program
In it’s previous incarnation as a CH-47A it is a war veteran in it’s own right.
Early Eurofighter, Harrier GR9, C-130?
Only one into preservation?
Two apparently, one to Cosford, one to Duxford
Your comments regards the ‘new’ radar that was fitted in the 1990’s made me think why the Dominies remained T1 and not T2. The nose was indeed extended, compare to first two photos above and you will see that the radom joint starts a little further away from the nose wheel door. As a model maker did Airfix revise their kit or just change the decal sheet ?
Paul
They remained T1 as all the aircraft were converted – apparently the original plan was for them to be re-designated T2, but as there wouldn’t have been any T1s in service, there would only be one set of engineering manuals, so it was more cost effective to change those elements that needed changed from the ‘old’ ones that to replace all the T1 documentation with T2!.
The nose wasn’t just extended, but was also made wider – it’s not too clear on the black airframe, but there is a fairing which starts just forward of the cockpit window and curves round to just in front of the nose wheel bay.
XS713 was the only updated aircraft to carry the Red/white/grey scheme with the new nose, and you can clearly see the fairing in this shot:

Airfix didn’t update the kit to include this – I have wondered about using a Lynx nose as the basis for some carving.
On its way out to its last tour, so you did see something quite unusual.
Does that mean the other one will be on it’s way back?
Some of the range targets at Otteerburn, thanks to Steve on http://WWW.hmvf.co.uk
Do they actually drop live weapons on Otterburn or are these targets for ground troops?
