I have doubts that they would be used as light attackers in the countries of their “origin” as these have much more sophisticated hardware for the mentioned role..

It is armed version is being created especially for the PKK and i think you have a good roadmap (imagination) for your Pilatus dreams…:)

I see a big difference between collecting inspiration from a design and a rip-off so similar that the air force roundels are the only way to tell the difference.

If i were the designer of one of these birds i could tell you the differences or similarities but for me with naked eyes i can’t compare the dimensions nor the specific design differences at certain areas but in my opinion for an basic trainer no manufacturer prefers some experimental designs even if its Pilatus πŸ˜€

Yeah, they all are “completely new designs”.
KT-1, Hurkus or T-6A, these are absolutely not rip-offs of PC-7 MkII or PC-9.. πŸ˜€

You think that PC-7 MkII or PC-9 completely new designs πŸ˜‰ Good practices always worth to be considered…

is the Hurkules based on the Korean KT-1 trainer?

No, its an indigenous design with the new wing profile and other aerodynamic solutions…

Turkey set to produce its own armed UAVs

    July/19/2012 Γ–zgΓΌr Ekşi

The Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSΔ°K) has assigned the task of launching studies aimed at production of the country’s first armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

The project is a further step after the partly successful test-flights of the Anka, a medium-altitude and long-endurance (MALE) UAV, which was also designed and produced by TAI.

According to the new project, which is called β€œAnka Plus A” in classified files, the Turkish armed UAVs will be similar to the American Reaper and the Israeli Heron with regard to its capabilities.

Ankara’s decision comes after years-long efforts to buy Predators and Reapers, the type of armed drones the U.S. has used in places like Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan to target militants. Nevertheless, the U.S. Congress has so far opposed the sale of drones to Turkey, reportedly because of Ankara’s worsening relations with Israel.

Anka made its maiden flight in December 2010, flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet for 14 minutes, but the flight ended in a crash-landing. The drone’s specifications call for a flight time of almost 24 hours at 30,000 feet. Two later flights also ended up in crash-landings, although their flight in the air was extended. The drone had its first successful test flight on Oct. 25, 2011.

Despite being in sub-standard flight conditions, the footage released by TAI put speculation about the crash-landings at a rest. On Nov. 22, 2011, the Anka held the follow-up test flight for 6 hours at an altitude of 20,000 feet.

TAI plans to start design studies for the Anka Plus A soon. Although not able to give an exact date for the finalization of the project, defense sources noted that they had gained important experience in the Anka project, which would be useful for the Anka Plus A too.

β€œThe new Anka Plus A will have higher flying altitude and longer flying endurance, but will be still categorized in the medium altitude long endurance (MALE) class. The first Anka that TAI is currently testing is also in the MALE class, but the new one will be closer to the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) class.”

    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-set-to-produce-its-own-armed-uavs.aspx?pageID=238&nID=25830&NewsCatID=345

According to the media it will be the 1,5 times bigger than the Anka, 40.000ft max. altitute, 250 knots max. speed with turbo prop engine with payload capacity 1500kg and satellite communication. And development work has already been started for a long time.

    medal64,

I don’t know if you misunderstood what I wrote or maybe I couldn’t get what you meant correctly. Anyway this is what I meant…

Tupolev was the hardest hit as the Tu-204 was soon to enter serial production. But events turned everything upside down…… Tu-204 was a very promising product positioned in the volume market and destined to generate good sales. I believe the halt to its charted plan was the biggest blow that Russian commercial aviation industries had….

MiG also had a big blow as their two important projects had to wind up due to non-availability of funds. But unlike Tu-204, the M & K were in development/testing phase and had not reached the serial production stage (AFAIK).

Yakovlev had two promising and very significant projects getting wind up due to the financial & political troubles.

Yeah agree that with limited funds (generated from small sales) they still managed to get these projects off the ground. But on the negative side, too much time was lost…which in other words mean loss of probable orders.

I see what you meant exactly sure in the 90s funding of many programs suspended or stopped and today they are not at the right place where they should be but against the everything they still alive and they are competitive products in the world market. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Sukhoi was more lucky because of the more flexible structure of the company. But in my opinion Mig, Tupolev and Yakovlev deserves more respect even they lost many years or market share…

It is not to take away any credit from the success of the Flanker series, but just to point out that Sukhoi does not deserve any sympathy. If ‘sympathy’ really need to be shown for the hard times of the 90s, the only deserving candidates that come to top of my mind now are are Tupolev (brand new Tu-204), MiG (MiG-29M/K) and Yakovlev (Yak-141/44)…

    Completely agreed,

    They also succesfully continued the development of their new products with the limited state support, such as;

    1-Yak-130
    2-MΔ°G-29M/K-MΔ°G-35/D
    3-Tu-204SM
    4-IL-476

And also on the engine development MMPP Salyut is a real success story with its latest upgraded AL-31 series engines and their role at the develpment of the second stage fifth generation engine…

Can someone explain to me why ruaf has ordered those 30 Su30sm?

What can those planes do that su34 and su35 can’t? Isn’t it better to have standardization of the fleet and less subtypes? So why not order 15 more of each su34 and su35 instead those su30sm?

Or was that order a matter of politics? su34 and su35 are both running a bit behind with their development and order, and Irkut had free production schedule to guarantee “extra” 30 good planes in pretty short order?

What is going to happen with Irkut? Did it sell its combat planes to ruaf before? It seems to me as if it was primarely concentrated to exports. Will there be more contracts with Ruaf for more su30? Does that depend on how much export work Irkut has?

Also, what about rest of the production capacity for fighters in russia?
We have Irkut – which makes su30. (does it make anything else?)
There is Knaapo – which makes su35 and which will make pakfa.
Who is making su34? Sukhoi’s in-house production line? Or knaapo?
Does Mig have its own production line?

Is it possible/likely that Irkut will at some point switch to su-35, making it for exports? At the same time, that would free up capacity in knaapo for pak-fa production, which will be needed soon.

NAPO (Novosibirsk Aviation Production Corporation named after V.P.Chkalov) is the only manufacturer of the Su-34 aircraft in Russia.

For the Mig corporation the production locations are at the link below,

    http://migavia.ru/eng/corporation/?tid=2

And in my opinion they ordered the Su-30sm because of it has already an active production line which can supply the desired amount of new fighters in a close time and cheaper than all other heavy fighters which are currently producing in Russia. As far as i know they are not gonna be the Super-30 configuration so i think they are especially for replacing the old fighters with the new ones in a short time

Interview of Tikhomirov-NIIP Director General Yuri Bely in latest Take off issue

    http://en.take-off.ru/pdf_to/to23.pdf

    Updates on PAK-FA AESA
Tu-22M3 and Tu-160M update will use a variant of Irbis
Su-30MKI upgrade is being proposed with AESA

And according to the interview, the radar onboard the T50-3 is not the first examples of the AESA created for the bench tests and it should be an up to date version. The other interesting news is the the fourth example of the AESA radar is gonna deliver to the customer in a close time that means the flight tests are going according the schedule and the first flight of the T50-4 has already planned for the late 2012!!! That is really unbeliable that there is very limited reliable info about the program…
