The Czech forum (http://forum.valka.cz/viewtopic.php/t/35123) captions the under wing bombs in the images as tallboys …

So you did! Interesting the subsequent angst. Cheers D

These two images from article here, http://forum.valka.cz/viewtopic.php/t/35123

    Chaps

The title of the pic with the two underwing bombs (at the link above) is
    B29 se dvěma pumami Tallboy.jpg

    Bing translates that as …
“B29 two of the bombs tallboy”

    Similar but not the same

    Compare with

Whatever happened to the contra-rotating arrangement?

    My mistake

No, no, no … you can’t point the finger at CW. I’m referring to an ad with a photo, nothing more. But in googling I’ve seen something that suggested IAF to me. That is all.

Edit … this is the web page I googled and made the error. Same mark (or very similar) aircraft and similar camo.

    Thanks Mark

I’ll ask Moggy to change the thread title. I’m not quite sure why I thought this was Indian AF colours – perhaps they’re similar.

That said, it is a fine looking aeroplane (which my iPad keeps trying to spell as airplane)! Grrr.

Thanks Stepwilk, I knew that but a very good/concise explanation.

And thank you Bager … and that explains why there are no contrails from the jet engines. TaVM.

    Contrails

Fascinating those images … contrails emanating from the piston engines but not from the jets … anyone care to explain how that works? Thanks D

I recommend you pm Peter D Evans (here). He moderates LEMB and may well be able to point you in right direction.

At the end of the war the German armed forces were disarmed. Aircraft were rendered inoperable, typically by removing of propellors and/or the shooting out one or more tyres. They were subsequently gathered together and unceremoniously piled/bulldozed together prior to melting down.

IMHO that doesn’t align well with an image of a line up of aircraft with no engines and wooden or steel replacement wheels. Could be, but not highly likely.

I wonder if what you saw was a photo of a production line of unfinished aircraft? A number of those were found and I’ve seen a few photos of that ilk.

This fascinating thread on 12 O’Clock High discusses such an environment.

    cheers D
