I remember seeing in a magazine about 2 years ago saying that easyJet wanted to enter the Larnaca and Paphos markets as well as Jersey, Oslo, Berlin and Stockholm. With the new base at Berlin maybe these other destinations could be served by easyJet in the future?

LOL it was OTT – he’s standing at the end of a runway at an international airport – oh my god where did that plane just come from? 😀
Yeah I thought it was an AA 757 too.

Hopefully a new one stop destination could be introduced instead of just extra frequencies to Sydney and Melbourne. Maybe Perth or Brisbane perhaps?

Talking of low costs – the proposed Dutch loco JetsSky has announced it will not start flights due to problems with KLM, competition from other locos and negative publicity and this would make their start impossible.

Yeah I heard Ryanair’s next base was to be EMA. Wouldnt surprise me seeing as EMA is one of the bigger U.K airports which it doesnt serve. Seems a good idea as WW doesnt serve Germany and has few services to Italy.
Cant believe they might move from Schoenefeld to Neubrandenburg!!! SXF is probably one of the best airport locations they have in their European network – maybe its becoming too expensive or slot congested for Ryanair?

Jeanske_SN – This is the point of my post
Yes Ryanair services out of CRL are successful and yes they do not want to leave BUT the main point of my post is that Ryanair has been part of an EU court case of its subsides it receives from CRL!! If the EU find this unlawful they will make Ryanair pay back the money they have received in subsidies (this was shown on a t.v documentary here a while ago) because it may be illegal!
And on the Ryanair website it has said many times that if the EU find the CRL base unlawful then they will protest by appealing and may discontinue services from CRL!
That is the point of my post!

I think the only others ones which havent been mentioned are Air Polonia which operates low cost and charter routes. Travel Service of the Czech Republic is expected to announce their low cost subsidary – maybe tomorrow even. Plus Air Malta operate a low cost service from STN to MLA 3 times a week. The flights are in Air Malta colours with Air Malta crews etc but the service comes under Fares4U.
There’s also Nordic Airlink plus Air Luxor Light. What about Austrias Niki? Isnt that suppossed to become a low cost airline soon. The only European countries which dont have a proper low cost airline are Greece, Spain and France (even though easyJet has a base at ORY and Ryanair a base at GRO).
I know there are lots of locos but I think its o.k for each European country to have at least 1 loco so everyone can share the benefit of low cost flying. I think the only countries which are entering saturation are the U.K and Germany.
But also look at all the regional airports which have benefitted from the locos. In The U.K the only “main” airports which dont have a loco airline service are Humberside and Norwich . Airports which do have a U.K low cost airline service are:
Exeter – FlyBE
Southampton – FlyBE
Bristol – easyJet, FlyBE, Ryanair
Cardiff – bmibaby, Ryanair
London Gatwick – easyJet, Ryanair
London Luton – easyJet, Ryanair
London Stansted – easyJet, Ryanair
Birmingham – MyTravel Lite, Ryanair
Nottingham East Midlands – bmibaby, easyJet
Liverpool John Lennon – easyJet, Ryanair
Manchester – bmibaby, Ryanair
Leeds Bradford – Jet2, Ryanair
Durham Tees Valley – bmibaby, Ryanair
Newcastle – easyJet, Ryanair
Glasgow Prestwick – Ryanair
Glasgow International – flyglobespan, Air Scotland
Edinburgh – flyglobespan, Air Scotland, Ryanair
Bournemouth – Ryanair
Newquay – Ryanair
Blackpool – Ryanair
Aberdeen – Ryanair, easyJet
Inverness – easyJet
Coventry – Thomsonfly
Who thinks which ones will survive in the long term? Im not sure about the other European airlines but in the U.K I dont think MyTravel Lite or Air Scotland are gonna last for much longer.

Thats now 12 routes which easyJet will serve from Newcastle for Summer 2004! This also means easyJet serves exactly the same destinations from Newcastle as bmibaby is from Teesside with the exception of Jersey. Look at the difference in frequencies too:
bmibaby from Teesside:
Belfast Intl – Daily
Jersey – Saturday
Malaga – 4 times weekly
Nice – Saturday
Alicante – 3 times weekly
Prague – 3 times weekly
Palma – 3 times weekly
easyJet from Newcastle:
Belfast Intl – Twice daily
Bristol – 3 times daily
London Stansted – 4 times daily
Alicante – Daily
Barcelona – Daily
Copenhagen – Daily
Malaga – Daily
Paris CDG – Daily
Prague – Daily
Berlin SXF – Daily
Nice – Daily
Palma – Daily
——————-
Newcastle to Nice
EZY 6427 06:30 – 09:55
Nice to Newcastle
EZY 6428 10:20 – 11:45
Good news for the North East!

Just got the frequencies from Teesside Airport:
Malaga – Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Prague – Tuesday, Sunday
Jersey – Saturday
Nice – Saturday
Alicante – Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Palma – Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Belfast International – Daily
Well it looks like only 1 based aircraft and the possible W patterns. I must say a little bit dissapointing but its a start!
Fares to Belfast start at £12.50 one way including taxes, Jersey from £25 one way including taxes and charges, Nice and Prague from £30 one way including taxes and charges while Malaga, Alicante and Palma are from £40 one way including taxes and charges.

I want to be an Air Traffic Controller anyway after I finish University (thats if I get in – Im in year 13 at the mo!).
I first thought about it after looking in my school library where there is a special career section. There was an air traffic control booklet and once I had finished reading it I thought thats what I want to be! The whole package looks fantastic.
Whenever I tell people this, they always look gobsmacked and say what a stressful job it is and they seem to get the impression that aeroplanes just fly about anywhere and dont follow “corridors”.
I would rather be based at a London airport though.
andrewm – yes you have convinced me a lot more 😀

VBird confirmed this new route on their website today. Fares to Niederrhein start at £27 single. V-Bird are also selling tickets to Munich and Copenhagen from Manchester for £34 single but this oubviously involves a change of plane in Niederrhein. £34 doesnt sound bad for 2 flights though! 😀
JustPlanes.com also said today that VBird are to take over the once weekly Las Palmas – Niederrhein service from DucthBird.
