well it appears I was very wrong regards the relevance of this particular Ebay auction item! and sorry for that Rocketeer, as it appears you have created quite a bit from just such items.
well done.
So, I am curious, as one who does benefit from such items, do you get frustrated when you see items that are labeled as bits of aviataion, such as fabric remnants, and bits of merlin block advertised at what appear to be silly prices. And tend to be purchased by someone who wants an aviation artifact with “history”
does this not tend to raise prices for individuals like yourself that can really benefit from such items for template use as you say?
I take it you asked this as a general question,
Yes, i do get frustrated when I see this happen. And there must be more like us who are doing something sensible with these parts and see them going for “gold”.

Will the Gladiator be in 80 or 33 Sqn markings, perchance? What a fantastic set-piece that would be, to have the CR.42 and a Gladiator carousing about in the sky… the last biplane fighters in history!
My only gripe is that no one’s put together an He 51 or Arado Ar 68E… now THAT was a sexy bird! 🙂
Good show TFC, and you know I have to ask it… will it be at Legends? 😀
Lynn
Isn’t there an Arado 68E airframe on show in Germany that was fished out of a lake after they stumbled over it while looking for a sunken Yacht? And didn’t have FlugWerk have any plans to clone some?
Cees
What about the MkIX then? 😉
The toddler?
Cees
Beautiful aircraft, sheer magic
Personally (but who cares 😀 ) there are far too many Mk IX’s around at the moment. It would be nice to balance things with some more Mk V’s and some XX-series. Perhaps LA226 would return to the air, now that would be something.

It’s a language thing. 🙂
Mark
😮
Oops sorry Mark, nearly chocked in my coffee this morning when I read it again.
When was the last time someone called you a box 😀 😀
If you were then the IWM surely had a reason to put you on display.
Indeed, must be a language thing. 😮
Cees
It’s not the sort of thing that turns up, Cees. Once removed from the aeroplane, it will have had little practical use, unless someone fancied installing a compass on their boat, and this just happened to fit the hole.
Unlikely, I would have thought.
Alan,
I think your are right. It’s more sensible to take out the compass and leave the bracket in situ. This would probably have been melted down with the airframe, although some strange things have survived over the years.
Remember a certain first aid box mounting a certain Dutch Halifax afficionado obtained from an English anything A*M afficionado with a liking for control wheels from the south of England? 😉

I notice someone’s nicked the throttle quadrant!
Mind if I search your home and garage, sir? :diablo:
Squinting at the writing above the artificial horizon, I fancy I can make out something like –323, so you may be right.
It’s certainly not a standard wartime Halifax judging by all the mods.
Hi Alan,
Mmm that would be more likely to be my text and your garage 😀

It sure is a B-24 and “Lady Be good” would fit the bill nicely. If there are other B-24’s about in this condition it would have been known about the warbird community.
Nice pic.
Cees
John, if you leave the forum you are nuts. 😮
Knowing you are nuts about warbirds that’s no surprise but leaving the forum
is useless and unnecessary. Nothing you said was malicious (look at the other replies after you made your statement).
Besides, your indepth knowledge is what this forum makes so enjoyable.
So, you have no choice but to stay 😉 Nuff said.

Doesn’t look very much like Hastings tyres. They should be similar to Lincoln, Shackleton wheels.
Cees
Think thats actually on a 10 year loan Dave
TT
Actually 21 years but a lot of those years have already past. It looks very authentic in it’s Dutch colours and much more appropriate than at Hendon.

As for the Beau, I would rather see the Tigercat, much as I love it, sold on to finance the restoration, it really has no historical place here, and I would prefer to see the Beau take it’s place in the air.
Careful Peter, let’s not start this again shall we? :p
Perhaps you can buy it or swap for something interesting. :diablo:
Cees (Teddies incoming…..)
I think TFC have done the most sensible thing to do. This way everybody should benefit. If a Beau flies in Europe, Australia or the north pole who cares? As long as it does fly, with the global information exchange facilities everybody can enjoy those aircraft. Remember, Stephen Grey is a pure enthusiast but has to listen to his own common sense, and so should we.
Rumours and discussing it is very interesting but should be cointained within human reason and personal opinions are useless if used strongly and have some severe consequenses (as this board has proven again, it’s not the first time Mr Grey has had to make a statement, remember that). But that doesn’t mean that rumours can’t be discussed but just let’s make sure that we don’t overdo it 😉
Mr Grey and all at TFC, you are held in high esteem and you have the full support from this board.
Cheers

Part of the individual code letter is visible, compare this with the photo taken of the Swiss Lancaster while dragging out of the lake, IIRC the codes were still visible. A comparision is made swiftly.
Don’t have the FlyPast article handy at the moment.
Cees
There are distinct differences between the Hudson and the Ventura . A Ventura could be restored in any number of interesting schemes! As for your other notes – God forbid anyone realises that the RAFM has Vulcans at both Hendon and Cosford or indeed two P-51D’s in U.S.A.A.F colours !
