IIRC having read somewhere that Bristols by accident had found out how to make perfectly circular cilinders. By mistake a course grinder had been used instead of the intended fine and so they found out how to make the cilinders perfect. I don’t recall having read something about centrifugal casting I’m afraid. Perhaps a combination of the two? :p

Paul,
Well, the rivalry between Bristol and Napier springs to mind regarding the technology about the grinding of perfectly round cilinder bores but teeth as well 😉 .
Cheerio

Before you go to Popham, what was Whithwick like last weekend?
Cees
Do we care? 😎 :p

What do you need Phil?
The area behind frame nr 7 (pilot’s bulkead) I do have constructional drawings for but they are format A0 ( don’t fit my scanner). The photograph you highlighted however shows the details really well.

I hope these pictures will shame the RAF Museum.
Phillip,
Nooooo, not that again!!!!!!! 😮
Two different philosophies, respect that. 😉
Cees
Same here 😀

Why can’t I never look at a pic of a Hastings without thinking:
“Mmm nice wings, would make a nice start for a reconstruction project… ” 😮
OK, I’ll go and wash my mouth.

I do know that the Egyptians operated some Halifaxes until the fifties. Never knew they used Lancs, but then again I never bothered to check the latter :diablo:

But without the “maines” :p

So there is a complete Halifax in the bottom of a Berlin Lake with a FULL bomb load and it’s FOR SALE. I’ve heard this before – was even told there are photos, but surely it’s still the property of HM Government?
Phillip,
If so, why don’t they get it out of the lake then!!!
I understand that there are plans in Germany to recover the wreck. This was stated by a German participant at the 57Rescue Forum. Let’s see what happens.
Strange though that people think that others are daft enough to pay a lot of money and then receive the name of the lake and the caption: she’s all yours, go ahead.
Cees
OK, feeding myself and the forum
Here are two pics I received today
Photo’s taken by Lloyd Wright, Halifax pilot 424 Squadron/ NA337 rebuild team at Trenton.
Enjoy,
Cees
Could be…but looks a bit too ‘nice’! Travis?
I would like a copy of Ultravox’s video ‘Reap the Wild Wind’ with its legendary low pass by a famous MH434 jockey!
Tony,
I have a copy of Ultravox, The Collection with all the videos and Reap The Wild Wind is one of them. Being a longtime Ultravox/Midge Ure fan makes this a nice combination.

I’m probably wrong on this, but something at the back of my mind tells me it’s under cover these days, along with the Spitfire sent to replace ‘965.
Daz,
You are too hard on yourself :p
You are absolutely correct. This true veteran with many missions to its credit has been fully restored and sits in a diorama under cover together with Spit XIV/XVIII NH649, a V1 and a T6.
IIRC the Spit and V1 are hung from the ceiling 😡 . Although it has been a while since I visited. I think Mark 12 could talk for hours about the whole provenance of this Spit, what it was and what it has become. A very nice exhibit.

We want more,
We want more,
We want more,
We want more,
We want more,
Etc. etc.
