i would like to see a HP42 flying, i think it would be very interesting to see? could be possible to get sponsership from an airline?
but i would prefer to see a airworthy Stirling or Whitney repro flying! And there is always a airworthy Halifax or Liberator?
i heard somewhere that someone was building a westland wallace repro im the UK? is this true?
But if anyone had to make a repro i would say build a mossie!
this is from http://www.filton.flyer.co.uk/bristol/surveynews.htm
Graham Kilsby of the Bristol Heritage Collection in Tennessee has announced that a Beaufort rebuild project is just about to start. Several Beaufort sections, recovered from Papa New Guinea in the 1970’s, have been stored at Chino in California for the past few decades. Transportation of the sections to Tennessee has started, with a forward fuselage, rear fuselage and tail section being trucked the 2,600 miles across the USA on 21st March. The sections arrived at Stripmasters Inc. of Nashville on 25th March. Here they will be identified, photographed etc., before being cleaned by beed blasting, and also blasting with dry ice, a relatively new method that removes the old paint and years of surface corrosion without actually harming the metal.
From there, the sections will be taken to Hassel Field, Clifton, Tennessee home of the new BHC restoration shop to join the Lysander and the Swordfish, where the various sections will be set in jigs prior to the long restoration.
As the sections are from Australian-built Mk VIII Beauforts, they had Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp engines, which makes it a little easier to find engines and parts in the US. The Mk.I’s built in the UK were the sole users of the Bristol Taurus, and it is thought that none survive.
In April the main large wing centre section and outer wing sections will be moved in from California and the same process applied, before starting on moving the Bolingbroke sections into Tennessee. Bristol Heritage Collection is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charity as recognised by the IRS and any help in the form of donations or pledges, especially from Australians in the
US would be warmly welcomed.
How many crews have the BBMF got for the lancaster? if they have more than 1,couldnt they fly the other lanc when they want to formation?
i would love to see 2 lancs flying. I was wondering, i heard that if the lanc flies, the would like to get something else to fill the void. I was wondering how many Lancs are currently in the UK? Isnt there one at Sandcroft? couldnt that or the stirling project be based there? couldnt they be restored to taxi?
lol i wish i had the ££. When im bit older i would like to buy a stearman, and work my way up the ladder. But considering im not in my 20s yet i have a little way to go! 🙂
What has happened to the TFCS b-25? has that been sold?
i duno, it is just very weird how we have heard nothing about the p-38 or the mossie. Some people say that the mossie is still staying, and being restored elsewhere and ……..
Im no expert but i didnt think that the TFC could afford a p-38, they have alot of restorations going on, and they have just got a p-51D and a new Hurricane?
Would be nice tho if Paul Allen did put more money in UK warbirds 😀
is there any possiliblity that Paul Allen has donated his p-38 to the TFC?
thanks DazdaMan!, the lanc mkII looks very different?, was there a big difference in speed between the merlin and radial engined lanc?
You learn something every day! only till today i found out about radial engined Lancs. I think the Lanc looks better with Merlins. i think the next Flying lanc will be Kermits, so that wil be a Packard Merlin powered one.
I think it would look weird seing a Lanc with a Radial engines. I feel the same about seing Halifaxs with Merlins? i would love to see a Halifax fly tho, but no hope of that!
i cant wait to see the Sea Fury dogfight with the la-9! 😀 😀 😀
There are companies in the UK that build Hurricanes and Spitfires to sell, why cant someone do mossies?
Yak 11, if i could make them, would you really want one?
lol 🙂 sorry i cant build them, wish i could, meant to say im surprised that no-one in the UK has had a go at making a new mossie? i really wish i could build them! i would have alot of ££!
Is the fate of the TFC mossie known yet? Is it going to Paul Allen in exchange for the p-38? is anyone in UK interested in a new build mossie project?
Any news on the Beaufighter, has anyone got any pics of the restoration of the Beau?
The BBMF has 5 spitfires, 2 hurricanes, why not 3 swordfishes?
I may be totally wrong here, but didnt the Swordfishes attack boats in Groups of 3?
I think the RNHF want people to know how important this aircraft was to Britain during WW2. Like helping in sinking the Bismark, and sinking the italian fleet at Taranto?
Swordfishes are great! as a matter of interest how much would one cost? more than a spitfire?
i would like the RNHF to have Seafire, Sea hurricane ,Walrus or even a Gladiator?
