Does anyone know exactly when the smaller fuselage windows were discontinued on the British built Lancaster Bombers?

No, but I now a man who does. Please contact: –

Avro Heritage Group, BAE SYSTEMS, Woodford Aerodrome, Chester Road, Woodford, Cheshire, SK7 1QR. Tel: 0161 955 4182.

They still have access to all the drawings, most of which are archived by another society if I remember correctly.

    HpSauce,
No way can you compare your grandfathers day to today. (a) We had the death penalty, and yes it was a deterrant (b) there was a common sense of decency and respect within society. Also, most men had seen their pals blown to pieces by a war and so knew the consequences of a bullet to a body.
You seem to believe that todays society is no better or worse than those of yesteryear. This implies that educational standards and parenting responsibility are on a par, which they certainly are not. They are both far lower. In some areas of course they are better, no more sending kids up chimneys for tuppence a year etc. (Unless you’re in China).
Why, even HP Sauce is carp now compared to the real stuff of the 60’s!
My bleak view of society is based on the fact that the toerags now affect the life of lots of other innocent people. Even the old fashioned mugging now involves the victim getting a knife in the neck.
Yes, I’m also sure that the majority of people are decent upright and non-threatening…….but they are not the ones buying guns.

I don’t normally sit on the fence on such matters but I’m in support of a properly armed Police force, let them take out the scum. Left to society, this society, it would get out of hand. If guns were on sale this week, how many on the BNP list would presently be dead?
I am no pinko, I’d like to see the scum and toerags offed at once, I don’t believe in long jail terms for mass murderers and child killers/molesters (Especially at about £2,300 PER WEEK) of taxpayers money to keep the basads warm and fed. Some of these should be killed on live television, with a phone-in to pick the method of death. Profits to the victims.
But I still wouldn’t trust the majority of UK citizens with a gun.
The above makes me sound right wing nazi Daily Mail. I hold no political direction at all.
I travel abroad frequently to Yerp and USA. I used to be always surprised at the respect I get abroad, younger people call me sir until they know my name etc.
Back to London and you come down to Earth with a bang. Disrespect, spitting, swearing even a general scruffiness of people (Which to reflects no respect for themselves therefore no respect for anything or anybody else).

Please don’t mistake my age and experience for cyncism.

Old shape, both shots were taken at the lenses exteremes, i.e 200mm for Sigma and 300mm for Canon. Is there anything else you need from the EXIF? I can’t copy and paste it in, I would have to type it all out by hand.

Also noticed something in the EXIF data, the metering on mine is “Average” whereas the metering on Huw’s is “Pattern”. I don’t really know much about metering so I don’t know if that is important or not.

Paul, talk to me on MSN later, I’ll send you the originals.

There are programs for dumping the exif, however, to prevent typing it….do a PrtScr and paste it into MS Paint, edit out the junk and then save it as a Jpeg…post it.
The metering pattern shouldn’t really make a difference to the focal quality…but then again it might because Red light focuses at a slightly different length than Blue or Green (Hence the invention of apochromatic lenses).
I think we need a more controlled test. Tripod, reliable day for light constants, your camera only, set on manual and set at exactly the same aperture/shutter etc. Swap lenses on your camera. And preferably of the same subject, so it would have to be a static.
What focus mode was the autofocus on each camera? AI Servo, AI Focus or One shot?
Finally, wasn’t there some soft focus issue with the 400D, on some models?
Overcome by Formatting the S/w back to factory settings. I’m sure I read about it on the DP Review forum. If you do it, take a note of your preferenced settings (If any).

The Prestige is a masterpiece – have seen it 3 times now and still get something new each time. Also saw “momento” – a tad spoiled for me as I knew a lot about it going in, but still a superb piece of film making…..

I’m an old git, seen many a film, talked about many films.
But, after the Prestige, me and the Mrs had a TWO HOUR debate on it. We even had a half time break to brew up. I mean debate too, not a cross word. That’s some effect!

I share your contempt for Trash TV (I hardly watch the box at all myself) but I don’t think we’re any more stupid, as a nation, than previously; the forbears of those folk watching Big Brother and getting pissed on Stella were, 200 years ago, watching public hangings and getting pissed on ale… A key mark of a free society is that its citizens are free to be armed, and historically only despots & tyrants forbade this. Switzerland is OK in this respect, while the UK, well, go figure… I dare say the Swiss don’t let just any draftee have an assault rifle – the dodgy and terminally stupid won’t get a look in.

I wasn’t aware of that – very interesting. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me: if a country is worth being a citizen of, then it’s worth helping to defend, and those who won’t or don’t should acknowledge this with a penalty.

    Hmm. No.
Free to be armed would fail in UK. Unless it was VASTLY scrutinised, which therefore makes it “Not Free” anyway.
Sorry, but the nation holds too much anger to be allowing free range guns. Road rage, pub fights, gangland, revenge etc.
US has this lot, and they have guns. Their murder rate is already too high, so imagine if they didn’t have the death penalty as a deterrant?

If the UK were to have guns, it would also need the death penalty bringing back.
(In public for certain types of criminals IMO)

Well, the 2nd shot looks sharper. A Canon lens will always beat a Sigma (I’ve got a Sigma because I can’t afford OEM stuff)
So, the defining factor could be that Sigma 18-200. I assume it was at the top end (200). These massive focal length variable lenses are usually carp at the two ends of the range. I also assume that the Canon was not at the top end..i.e not 300 so thus not using the extreme end.
Could you type out the Exif data for the two shots please?

One of the better recent comic book adaptations, I reckon. I had to literally wrestle it from my housemate’s grasp! :p

I’ve just downloaded Iron Man, Number 23 and Anchor Man. Watched Anchor man after the d/load, very entertaining slapstick.
Number 23, watched 45 mins of it and it was going nowhere IMO. I may watch it all one day.

Apols, is this thread still referring to 3D?

And, I’ve done a search and can’t believe nobody has mentioned “The Prestige”.one of the better films of the last few years IMO.
