I presume they took the correct decision and left because they would be in the way, eating and drinking valuable resources.
However, maybe they weren’t that convicted to the cause and didn’t want a disease or something horrible.
The hypocrisy is thousands of years old, the Pope and his handbag on fire was for one purpose only….to disguise the stench of the poor as he walked amongst them…..whilst he dressed in pure silk which was distorted by the weight of Gold thread.
If there was a God, of any colour or creed, then he/she/it would not let the disasters happen in the 1st place.

Anyway, stuff Religion, I’m shocked at the time it’s taking to get the Aid from the Airport to the towns. The Rescue teams stuck over at Dom Rep. while people died. Not good.
Once again, the US leads the way in benevolence and there is no oil or any other commodity of value there either (Just to shut the sceptics up).
I’ve been next door (Dom. Rep.) and that was one of the dirtiest unhealthy poverty stricken places I’ve been to, Haiti is reputed to be so much worse. Those buildings would have gone on a Richter of 3 never mind 7. The poor didn’t stand a chance.

They vary. According to all the attempts to estimate levels of corruption there’s a distinct north-south gradient in Europe, overlaid with an east-west one, though both are very uneven. Central European countries are judged to be similar to the better S. European ones, for example.

Greece is up there with Romania & Bulgaria, Italy’s not far behind, Spain & Portugal are better but still behind N. European countries. The UK’s not quite as good as the Scandinavians, but better than most.

A big chap with a cigar stated it as “The soft underbelly of Europe”

There is no paid-for product placement on the BBC networks. It of course appears in movies and US shows broadcast on the Beeb, but this does not constitute an income stream for the Corporation.

    Moggy

    Is that the official statement?
I’ve seen blatent placements on Live BBC Shows. I’ll post reference next time.
If there is money involved, there will be people that will bend the rules to have some of it. The BBC is not above that.

But I agree it probably doesn’t put a spike on the income graph. But there is an inflow rather than an outflow.

A distraught woman rushed into a Police Station claiming she had been raped.

The Desk Sergeant calmed her down and asked her to provide details. She
told him that it was a man of average height dressed in white and that he
was wearing protective pads on his legs and forearms, additionally he
had on a helmet and gloves.

“That sounds as if the man was a cricketer” observed the policeman.

“Oh yes he was” replied the woman, “and what’s more he was an Englishman”.

“I suppose you guessed that because of his accent ” said the Sergeant.

“No” the woman said, “it was because he didn’t stay in very long.” :D:cool:

    False joke.
Most of that Cricket team bat for the wrong side. The victim should be a bloke.
Sheesh, it’s 01:21, I’m off to me pit.

This is interesting reading and bears out what a number of us have been saying.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/6983003/BBC-wasting-money-on-big-name-presenters.html

That’s a one sided lump of tory trash.

The BBC earns bazillians more from other areas than we “The licence payer” puts in. Top gear sells worldwide, and all the books/DVD’s that go with it. Dickie Attenborough stuff likewise. All the Drama’s, a lot of the Sports. All sold around the world for a healthy fee. And then there is product-placement, I have no idea how much that brings in but it must be significant. It’s not as obvious as it was a few years ago, but is still clearly visible.
In essence, it is indeed the ratings that make the Stars, and the Stars create this worldwide interest and income. The Goose that lays the golden eggs springs to mind.
I’m afraid thet we have to suffer BBC1 being targetted at the bottom of the bell curve, ratings overtake quality. Thankfully, the BBC still produces outstanding quality programmes.

I know this is a serious subject and I really should act more like a grown-up,but I have to share this.
It’s commonly believed that Muslim martyrs will be rewarded with seventy-two virgins when they arrive in heaven.
In my newspaper today a correspondent mentions something in Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion.
Apparently this idea results from a mis-translation.The term virgin can also refer to raisins,so what the martyrs will actually receive are ” seventy-two white raisins of crystal clarity “.
I imagine that might come as a bit of a let-down.

    Hopefully they get poisoned ones.
