Update, 10 Oct
Last working day before the THUNDER DAY (subtle hint), so after last weekend’s washout we really had to be on with it yesterday. Lindy had lots of little jobs and checks to be done, so cue Victor crew impersonating blue-arsed flies!
The wheels, maxaret tracks, undercarriage etc were all given a clean up, to remove any contamination. John did his usual job of work of checking the pressures in all the tyres (and there’s a fair few tyres on a Victor!).
We also dropped the fuel filter on no.3 engine and Andre gave it a damn good swilling out (!). A lot of cr@p came out of it, so hopefully that’s why no.3 has been developing a habit of ‘putting itself to bed’ early. We’ll find out next weekend. Amazingly we managed to bleed the fuel system off without anyone getting a jet fuel shower, much to the disappointment of the Nimrod crew spectating from the rogues’ gallery under the tail of their machine! However after giving the engine bay a quick spruce up while the doors were open we did all pong of fuel rather…
After lunch we did dry and wet runs of all 4 engines. For once we had the brains to go clambering about de-blanking and doing the intake checks BEFORE Sunday Lunch!
A bit of noise was made, you really can’t beat seeing the old girl live, making lots of noise and smells, anti-cols flashing, well you get the idea. As usual, Elvington Nimrod team’s answer to the Strictly Come Dancing judges gave us our ‘scores’. I’ll let you make up your minds who’s which judge from the picture below!
We did quite a few other minor unexciting jobs, which after blanking up resulted in quite a late finish to a busy, smelly but successful day.
Bring on Sunday, and please, please do come see us; Lindy’s ready to rip tarmac again ;)!
