That’s fantastic…never would I have imagined, even 20 years ago, that so many Luftwaffe airplanes would be on the go. Just doing a cursory count in my head I can think of 9 DB powered 109s flying or really close to flying, not counting the 109 projects at Chino and Danville or the others out there. Amazing. Where are all these engines coming from? not complaining, mind you.
Jim
Absolutely stunning thread! Thank you so much!!!
Jim
Personally, I think there should be an effort to get the Me 262 over from Germany. Combine that with the DB powered 109’s coming online within the next few months and I think you would have a very impressive Luftwaffe theme.

Many years ago we were invited to bring “Witchcraft” over to Poland for the Shuttle mission anniversary. We did a cost analysis and it would have been around 3 million to get there and back. The logistics of spares, fuel, crew and other needs are currently cost prohibitive. If we could give rides that would be another story. I fly the thing and I would pay good money to be able to fly her out of England.

Um, I’m only 43 🙂
naw…HP brown sauce Living and working in Florida for 2 years at Warbird Adventures I had the opportunity to meet a lot of English tourists that have only been to Orlando. The most disturbing part about Disney and Orlando is…’that part of Florida’ is about the only snapshot of America they get. It’s horrible to think of Florida as the Ambassador State for the US…we really do have much more to offer…food choices aside. I apologize for the rest

I’m saving for my Spitfire flight now!
Great compilation! I see A LOT of happy engine shops in the montage
Jim
Not to be biased toward the 51 but…come on over and I will give you the Mustang ride of your life 🙂 you can take all the video you want AND I’ll let you fly it…from the backseat of course. Yes, video has a piano tune attached…
Jim
PS…I’ll even throw in a good Caesar Salad…or local fare
The Collings Foundation crew recently did a tour through Europe, we started in Amsterdam and worked our way through northern France. In doing some research in a hotel one evening I realized we were approximating Hitler’s tour through his old WWI haunts. Here are a few highlights. I have a few more if you guys are interested.

Is that Galland flying the Buchon for the film? Great photos as always
Jim
If you compare it to running a Mustang with a Roush engine you are looking at 500hrs for heads and banks, 1000tbo for the bottom end.

Here is another of a Photo Flight we did into Austin with the 262 and 2 Mustangs. Raw sound on this one, actually came out quite good considering the Db level.

Well…the GoPro strikes again. Here is a compilation video of the 2013 season. The second video was some of the first footage shot from the Mustang of the 262. Its a neat formation on our way somewhere in Texas. The second half was shot during my flight in the 262. Flies great BTW 🙂 First vid “sing sing sing”..its meant as a promo vid…second vid…no music…just engine sounds
