What a sad end for such a magnificent plane.
So sorry.
Yes, my sentiments entirely, hard to believe everything HAS GONE SO QUIET…………………
Hi Alan,
Glad someone brought this one up again. As it concerns the Phantom (one of my other obsessions!) I would very much like to see some “colour” film footage of this event. Limited clips on youtube and some on a DVD of British Phantom Pilot – I too want to see more on the subject.
Unfortunately, I was only 4 when it happened! So the search for film footage is ongoing!
Newark Air Museum is one of the BEST! If you have never been before, then consider a visit.
Pardon me if I’m wrong but I think the article means that they have been married for 65 years.

Whatever, like I said, B58 effect, magical………..
Met some of my “bessie mates” at Whitwick, hard to do that on ebay?
30 yrs younger wife… the bloke was a cannon 🙂
Mmm……. I suppose that’s what we call the B 58 effect…..
Certainly one of my fave planes, Sir, we salute you!
I miss Whitwick:( !!!
Hey Giblets, I bought that book too, looking forward to reading it!
I read about this event in our local paper, wish I had seen this happen. Flown in by Dan Griffith, (What a guy!) Iconic plane from a truly fantastic era, wish we could turn the clock back to 1949?
As for the smoke, someone said on the other thread it may have been paint cooking off, or a gasket gone and exhaust gases escaping? It will look so sexy with a new paint job? I must visit Coventry soon.
I found that theraputic and relaxing.

Nice one Tony! Glad you caught that. (I am still laughing at the “Spade Grip that you found in the scrap heap!)
Hi there, yes Bananasplits is right, Hendon may be able to help.
Most of the info I have picked up is mainly by using common sense of what goes in which pockets, Heliograph, Whistle, SARAH/SARBE/PYe Beacon pockets, Miniflare in the later jackets.
No decent literature on it really just dribs and drabs of info. If you want to PM me with a picture I may be able to answer a question?
Scott, your display was great! lots of interesting helmets on it again!
The important thing is participation! no matter how small or simple the display, just get set up in Hangar 2 and get the enthusiasm flowing!
Even if you have the bare bones of a newly started cockpit, an empty panel, or some well worn Flight clothing, just show it, it’s real nice to see a project in progress.
My passion is the Air Sea equipment side and clothing, but I dont see anything wrong with bringing the same item? If that is your main interest then go for it!
Some people look forward to seeing the same items?
I love Hangar 2 and the interiors/Flight equipment exhibits you never know what is going to be in there!
