Especially the last one, don`t see that too often now!

I had to do a bit of a Grin at the shot of the Blue/White one on 33`s Threshold, half way up Warners Bridge. I took a shot of a Herald from there in 1987 with a Praktika 35mm + 300mm Lens, just as a Police car was passing.

What happened next was comical. Police car turned round, told me ( & wife ) to come with him, took us to the Terminal Building, Frogged Marched through in front of 100`s of passengers ! ( it was busy then) – Into Special Branch office, & ask why i was taking photos with such a large lens!

Lots of questions later, and for no reason they told us to go….so we did – quickly. :):)

This is Southend I`m talking about & not a Greek Military base !

Great shots – what part of the airfield is the ground picture taken?

The 06 shot has a barn like building on the left, which i don`t remember at all, i remember the cottages there that were pulled down, but all this maybe before my time, as all i remember Channel Airways wise are Viscounts, 1-11s etc when i was 5 or there abouts, living the otherside of the railway line from Laddie Marmols!

Good to see G-APEX – my 1st flight was on that one as a BAF Apprentice, Southend – Belfast, Newspaper flight, Just 2 seats though and they were both taken! Jump seat missing so it was standing up all the way for me, on the flightdeck behind the pilots. I also had the same “seat” allocated for me on the next paper flight i wangled, Herald G-BCWE Herald, Southend – Basle.

Happy days.

I think the Carvair was ex Southend – CF-EPV

Not sure about the Lightning though?
