Sorry to go a bit off topic, but on the subject of celebs and vip`s i was on my way to LGW at 00.30 on the 25th April ( 2 days ago) and was passed on the M23 by 2 Silver Mercs, a Black Range Rover with blacked out windows and 2 further silver mercs, all travelling at over 100mph very tightly together, they came off the M23 straight into Gatwick, up towards the North Terminal, then left into the GA bit. Loads of heavys jumped out and surrounded the Range Rover and wisked someone into the GA area, must have been someone importatnt for that lot, anyone know what movements went out of the GA terminal at Gatwick, that early morning??

Have you thought about one of the Local papers for the area, maybe they can print a copy of the picture etc, wartime memories still make regular headlines in East Anglia, so it may get a mention?
Hi, I was at LHR yesterday evening and they were landing on 09L, no good i would imagine during the day if sunny.
Just wondered if anyone has ever considered parking the the “Business” car parks that run along the perimiter fence up the side of 09L?
Can you park there? And if so stay all day with your car and get some great shots…….you need to be a bit flush with the parking but £21.95 does not seem to bad for 24 hours, if they let you do it?
Jamie
Thanks Jon,
I run an Private Hire company, with regular visits for LHR & LGW, so its nice to hear when clients flights are on finals!
Cheers.
Butlers Farm, now your talking! I know the place really well, spending a lot of time there as a child, my Dad used to do all the maintenace on that farm, and several local others. I never new about the JU188 there though.
I will ask around but sadly my Dad and most of that generation are no longer around.
Colin, I was going to suggest speaking to the guys at Thameside, but i noticed your name on some other JU88 Essex dig pics:):):)

I did notice there were two other digs with JU88`s in Essex on the site, one at Havering in 1944, miles away, but one at Burnham on Crouch 1943 – just across the river from Barling? ( well almost )
I know the area quite well, its close to the river, and the area around the two farms even now is fairly remote. The 2 farms are less than 1/2 mile apart i would say.
There`s a map below. Also the Parish council have a website ( bit sparce) but some contacts on there maybe able to help further.
Great shots, do you mind if i ask what camera you used? And where abouts at Gatwick they were taken?
I get to Gatwick about once a week with my work, and generally have a bit of spare time for some pics, just need to know the best locations. 🙂
Hi
Do you know where abouts in Barling?
Thats a shame remember it well at Southend as N447T 🙁
Spooky Stuff !!!!
I was born in 1963 – In that house on the tip of MFP`s tail !
As wawkrk said with KLM, the same applies to BA if you book online. Also if you are really cheeky and the flights not full, space your passengers about by leaving a cap between each of you, and you maybe lucky and have spare seats next to you ! Worked for us – party of 4 returning from US, we had 7 seats !
Skymonster – A bit off the thread topic, but whats happened to the CL-44-0 ? Is it still about, airworthy etc??
Great story & nice to hear…..so what was the big issue with Radios at Southend. There were signs everywhere about Airband Radios contravening the so called “Airport Bylaws” but if you went to LHR for the day everyone had them on the Queens Building!
I constantly remember as a teenager hiding mine in my pocket with an earpiece inside my coat. Airport Security ( retired & well past it bobbies ) were always out to catch you if you were in the carpark or the “waving off terrace”, and as for the “Airport Duty Officers” they were the worst!
Does anyone know why no radios at Southend in the 70`s & 80`s or was it the same elsewhere?
