Lets just say it shouldn’t have hapenned, credit to NEAM for the work they are doing there but from a purists point of view its just wrong.
Before everyone condems me for my point of view, just see the reaction you would get if you painted a Spitfire the wrong shade of green!.

Hi all,
Does anyone have any good pictures of either XS928 or 933 while in service at RAF Binbrook in the latter years i.e. 1980 – 1988??
This will be used to aid the restoration of ZF594/53-696 at N.E.A.M.
Phil
😡 😡 .
XM172 is the chap you need to speak too, I think the last couple of years have been spent aquiring airframes, at last count it was five I think.
A regular at cockpitfest and a nice guy to boot, a web site is in the pipeline and I think the grand plan is to bring all the Lightnings together in one location.

Robert Craig Knievel Jnr, you were my one true childhood hero, I will miss you, a real entertainer.
Never mess with Evel…..
Even in retirement he could not keep out of the spotlight. The publication of a book written by his former publicist Sheldon Saltman, which painted a less than rosy picture of his family life, angered Knievel.
Despite having both arms in plaster he attacked Saltman with a baseball bat. He was jailed for six months.
Heaven will be a richer place with Evel at the table.

At 45 thousand feet he says “the pressure outside is 20% less than on the ground, outside my blood would boil and I would die in seconds”
In that case then we better tell all the fast jet pilots not to eject!!!!!!.
At 50 thousand feet he says “this is as high as this plane can take me”
😡 WRONG, he should have done his homework, the unofficial record is 89,000 by Mr B Carrol.
Why in a programme that is supposed to be educational, get such obviouse facts so wrong:mad: 😡 .

Thanks for the link whch is now bookmarked, I have read a couple of the news letters and I am impressed with the progress made on her.
Talk about a challenge in the face of adversity, bloody good work chaps, keep it up.

Are ther plans to update their website….
http://www.lightningusa.org/news.html
This is the only one I have and it hasn’t been updated for three years, it’s always nice to have a chat with the AALO at Brunty.
Best of luck gents.

Very nice widow maker Peter.

what would it take to persuade the CAA that a lightning could safely operate under civillian guise in this country? she has a massive spares backup, surely this coupled with experienced engineers and a good financial backing should be whats needed?
Haven’t we been here before?
There are no spares to speak of in this country, the majority of them now reside in SA keeping their birds alive.
The CAA in the UK will not touch any fast jet equiped with afterburners, they are deemed to complicated and given the crash/fire record of the Lightning who can blame them.
The Lightning had a career that far exceeded it’s planned retirement and all the airframes that are left in this country have little or no ‘time’ left on them.
The list goes on and makes for an endless debate but one thing is for sure, it will never happen:( .

John.
Bravo
You need to get yourself down to Bruntingthorpe in Leicestishire, it is currently home to XH558, the cold war jets collection and the Lightning Preservation group.
Twice a year they open the gates to the public and thrash there kit up and down the runway all day, the access to the aircraft s totally unhindered, you can wander up to them and inspect them close up.
Cockpit tours in them all and also the crew will chat to you willingly, they have a well stocked shop and usually there are other stalls there with lots of goodies for sale.
Off the top of my head here is a list of jets there…..
2 x E E Lightnings
Handley page Victor
Comet
3 x Buccaneers
Jet provost
2 Hunters
Super Guppy
Vulcan XH558
Iskra
Sea Vixen
There are lots of other cockpit sectons there too.
Check out the LPG website…..

Hope all goes well on Saturday.

Here is the pressure re-fuelling hook up underneath the port wing, IIRC the lights go out as each tank fills up.

Regards,
John.
Gazz
Underneath the port wing there is a refueling hook up whereby the Lightning can be pressure re-fueled, also there is an option on top of both wings whereby you can fill/top up under gravity feed.
I have a picture of the re-fuelling panel that I can post, just give us a minute or two.
John.
May they be getting mixed up with her planned trip to Waddington for compass swing tests?.
