There I was mooching around Newark Air Museum and look what I stumbled across!!!!.
This got me wondering, how many bits and where are they all?, you may be closer to some TSR-2 than you think.
Farnborough Air Sciences Trust has an ejector seat and Midland Air Museum has one too and a canopy, I think Brooklands even has a cockpit section (gutted though).
No. 1 Farnborough Air Sceinces ejector seat.
No. 2 Newark Air Museum engine cover.

Landraver if you want to suport the preservation of Lightnings then the best place to be is Bruntingthorpe in Leicestishire, I am not far from Hull myself and it takes me about 1h45mins down the A1.
Each year there is a general open day and a QRA day, the general open day have fast taxi runs performed by a Victor, Lightning, Bucaneer, Hunter, Jaypee, Iskra and a couple of others I forget now, there is almost unrestricted access to the aircraft and the LPG are a bloody good bunch too!!, all for the princley sum of about 10 quid on the gate.
The QRA day is fantastic with fast taxi runs by both Lightning’s and also pairs QRA re-enactment, there are stalls and displays by other groups too so lots to do, again all for about a tenner on the gate.
Another good reason to visit Brunty is XH558, she is hangered there, words cannot describe the feeling being stood 20 feet away from two Avons at full chat.
Visit their web site for loads of info and they have a well stocked shop too……http://www.photo-restorations.co.uk/lightnings/index.htm

Cheap at half the price?.

Yes she has been moved outside due to the large amount of aircraft movements just recently with the new building and the new arrivals.
One day soon there will be a big sort out and some airframes will be put back in the new hanger.

The only thing that I have heard is that some members of the LPG went to see it and offer advice to the guy who had ideas of restoration.
It was seen as a dead loss due to the amount of vandalism and corrosion, IMHO the front fus should be removed at the transport joint for possible restoration and the tail fin should be mounted at the Newark Air Museum as a monument to her, also the engines could be used as display items and maybe one or two other items from deep within her fuselage may be salvagable.
It would be ashame to let her get chopped up without any thought but then again she is sat in a scrap yard where metal is money so she isn’t in the best position to start with.

The Mrs (honest!) has the Sharon Osbourne show on the box and good old Shazza has used the word ERECTION to describe something you can squeeze!.
How bloody PC s that then before six pm and my two little uns are now very interested to know if we have one in the house and can they squeeze it 😡 😡 .
What was Nigger, is Nigger, and should stay…….Nigger.

That was then, now is now.
Moggy
One fine example of PC gone wrong is the recent (ish) add for Virgin Trains, the one involving a group of indians chasing down a Virgin train and at the very end one of them dresses up as a waiter to get on board.
To me it was pure childhood fantasy as in black (no offence!) and white John Wayne films, Bonanza and the likes that most of us have seen at some point in our childhood but becouse someone dared to make an advert in this modern ‘PC’ society they were occused of being ‘racist’ and ‘oppressive’.
The ITCC had a bucket load of complaints about it and I think it is discracefull that it ever went as far as it did, slowly but surely the world that I grew up in is being torn from underneath me as we have to make way for the PC brigade.
I can play devils advocate and see both side in most cases but there are few things that should not change, the following article is on said advert and the comments bit makes for some interesting reading.

ssrst, some of those shots are simply poetic, thanks for posting them!!!!!.

If they are going to modify the name ‘nigger’ then they are going to have to swop the ‘black’ labrador to a golden retriever so they don’t offend anyone with the term ‘black’.
In short I think it’s bloody rediculous and should not be changed.

Bump!!, sorry this thread is bloody fantastic and should be kept alive.
