Come on lets all give it another cash push , stop whining and put youre hand in your pocket , i have.
Here here, e-donation made and I hope to see them at the open day on the 27th.
No it isn’t, sponsorship is getting a company’s name up in lights, associated with a particular event and hopefully benefitting from the exposure. It’s not quite the same as an advertising campaign, to which a company requires some form of return or increase in sales.
Isn’t ‘benefitting from exposure’ a return on an investment?
Isn’t sponsorship exactly the same as an advertising campaign?
The one reason IMHO that they have not found a sponsor is that no one believes they will get an adiquate return on investment, the crux of the whole argument I believe.
It is a cryng shame but this is the world driven by buisness and money and nothing else, I am still living in hope as looking at the web cams this morning there are people busy at work.
Regards,
John.
Here is I when times were good, August 22nd 1987 Raf Binbrook, I took my broken heart home in a carrier bag that day and have been trying to re-build it ever since.
NO CONTEST!
You could try contacting ‘Merlin Pete’ he posts on here fairly regularly, or, try his website http://members.lycos.co.uk/pwgrieve/ he runs and maintains a Griffon58 (as well as 2 merlins and an Alvis Leonides!) I’m guessing he’d have a good idea regarding rarity and/or spares.
Good luck 🙂

John.
I have just finished reading Roland Beamont’s book titled ‘English Electric P1 Lightning’,
it is out of print but most aviation book stores and museums have second hand copies for sale.
It has an interesting chapter at the back titled ‘What Might Have Been’ and he talks of the different variants that EE considered for development on the Lightning, one was a Mach 2 supercruise (sustained without AB) and utilises area ruled fuselage and tricycle undercariage similar to an F18.
The details on the the ‘Navalised Lightning’ are quite clear, side intakes, 30′ radar, variable geometry wing, RR RB168/1R engines, internal fuel capacity of 2000lb and four Red Top collision course missiles and also the availability of four 1000lb bombs.
The specifications came about from the Naval requirement AW406 and the book contains one technical drawing and a photograph of a wooden mock-up that was displayed by EE, sadly all this development was at the time of major government changes that gave us the cancellation of the TSR.2 and other major aviation developments, it also became apparent that big carriers were being phased out and the requirement of a supersonic carrier base aircraft no longer exsisted and development funding was cancelled.
Can you PM me with the site you got the shadow plan from, I have a weak spot for the Lightning and would like to know more about this devolopment myself.
Regards,
John.
Next time someone is at Dux, give the one there are tap and see what it is made of!, unless it’s a mock up  .
John.
How very sad that these were used as ‘recruitment’ aids and now what do we have?
No aircraft carriers and no SHAR’s, what a shame.
John.
Fatnav
My comments on the windows were only echoed from one of the nav’s I spoke to at RIAT, maybe the sun had got to him that day and he wanted to be short and sweet with the chit chat, for any offence I may have caused I appologise.
I didn’t comment on the recce sight as I have been having trouble with my internet connection and it kebt booting me off while typing!, also this is a very amateurish description of the front seat and I welcome experienced Nav’s like your self to give us detailed brakedown as I myself am very interested in the Canberra.
Kindest regards,
John.
