Dave T, No Harriers I’m afraid and one of the only JayPee shots I have is quite poor……hope to fill me boots though at this years Cockpitfest!!!.

WV838, I have toured your website and I am very impressed, I to one day hope to be a cockpit owner, will yours be at Cockpitfest?, I was drooling over the Sea Hawk at Duxford the other day and although there are steps up to the cockpit the canopy was closed making photography impossible.

    Regards,

    John.

Yes, Bristol 188, XF926 at RAF Cosford.

I managed to persuade a helpfull attendant at Cosford to let me photograph it, I have several shots of the whole interior.

Great cockpit pictures, you might get some more good shots at the Cockpit-Fest at Newark Air Museum, June 17th & 18th 2006.

    See link for details:

TNz, I have had this site bookmarked as a favourite for some time (everyone should have it!), all you have to do is go to ‘sounds’ and then hover your mouse over the desired one, right click and ‘save target as’ and hey presto you have downloaded flybys and start ups.

Alternativly just click on whatever one you want and listen as your ears are filled wth the delightfull sound of Merlins.

I hope you enjoy as much as I do!!!!!.

    and what about this…

Yes the Sea Dart does qualify as a flying boat in my opinion as it did float upon water (aka boat), but it was never a fighter plane. However it was the first and only supersonic flying boat achieving speeds in excess of mach 1 allbiet in a shallow dive.

Although the Sea Dart was to be armed it never was due to wieght restrictions and the project was cancelled before it could, The SR.A1 was however armed with 20mm Hispano Cannon and underwent firing trials and therefore qualifies as the only flying boat/fighter plane.

One for the purists I think 😉 .

Please confirm that. I think it is rather unrealistic. I don’t know what you know about transonic/supersonic drag increase, but believe me, it is awesome. Clean the F-4 can break the sound barrier at low level.

A speed record says none about real performance. My BMW engine can’t make 18.000 RPM like Ralf Schumacher’s, either.

Schorsh, I have extensivly researched my origional aircrew manual for the F4C/D Phantom and yes this bird can certainly break the sound barrier at sea level complete with wing tanks and ordinance.

Even with four Sparrows, one C/L tank and two wing tanks it is entirly possible to break the sound barrier at sea level (only just!).

This data has been compiled and published by McDonald Douglas themselves to teach new pilots exactly what the plane could do so I regard this as a reliable source of information and proof of REAL performance.

About your engine……take off the gadget called a rev limiter and yes it wll rev at 18000 rpm for a short while before making quite a sizable hole in your bonnet!!!, one good reason why you don’t see many family cars in a grand prix.

what was that jet flying boat saunders roe made…that was a funny looking thing. its a pity the thin winged javelin never flew…the A-9 looked good.
quite a few cancelled US designs did make it though in different guises..
the YF-17 eventualy became the FA-18.. the B-1 became the much less capable B-1B, the F-111B navy interceptor became the F-111 bomber…

The Saunders Roe SR.A/1 was the worlds only jet powered flying boat designed as a fighter plane, armed with Hispano cannons and the capability to use 2 x 1000lb bombs or rocket pods.

An odd looking but facinating aircraft I am sure you will agree!!.
