Very nice DJ good to see you back in action it’s been hard going this Winter with the weather but the better days are just around the corner.

Have you shot the new based YAK 52 close up yet? theone that’s in your 4th picture down?

What was the number seconds on your Atlas 747 pushback shot from Stand? that’s a good one.

Mainly the Canon 100-400mm on a 400D and for everything less than 100mm I use a 28-105mm short lense.

The 400D helps a lot on the long distance shots it opens up new angles because you can crop more heavily into the images and still get a decent quality picture.

My final visit to an Airport in the good weather was another trip to Prestwick on Tuesday 6th where there was clear skies all day.

This was a slow day after the departure of an early morning North American 767 and it wasn’t until 3-50pm that a 747 Freighter arrived followed 40 minutes later by another, both were Atlas ones.

Due to the high inner fence at the Mound I prefer to go for tight cropped angles on taxiers or nothing at all as lots of fence at the bottom of a photo ruins it for me.

A Ryanair 737 being de-iced before training in the circuit, it did 23 touch and go’s. Pity I just missed the wings being de-iced which I think would have made a better shot.

A very long distance shot of the 747 vacating the Runway. You can clearly see the ripple in the Runway half way down in this one.

The forecast for Monday 5th February at Prestwick was very good so I went there for the day arriving just in time to see the Evergreen 747 Supertanker for the first time rolling down the Runway in clear skies and all I could do was watch it go past unable to get my camera out in time.

Oh well nevermind you can’t get everything so here are some more from the Monday.

    Fred.

Transavia 737 here for a days training putting in about 30 touch and go’s.

    Hello Kevin,
It takes a while to get to know the inns and outs of a new camera so I’ve already learned a few things in the past 10 days or so with it.

One noticeable thing is that because it’s 10MP when you reduce down to the usual 1024px wide there are less jaggies in it, before I would nearly always look to take out about 75% of sharpening from the wing edges which always shows it worst but with this camera I rarely seem to find the need to do that provided I’m not cropping into it quite a bit of course.

Another nice bonus is that it’s a lot more stable when using a 1.4x Extender attach (using the tape trick) to a Canon 100-400mm lense, it holds focus much better than my other camera and that helps a lot with long distance pictures.

Brilliant shots! I really have to get up to Prestwick soon, is there a day that has anything good or is there other stuff in every week?

    Hello Sam,
Mondays and Thursdays are good for Freighters there are usually at least three on both days during early afternoon.

I keep my eye on Flight Tracker for Freighter movements to decide whether it’s worth a visit and as there are always some going to and from the States seeing the arrival times helps make sure that you will see something.

On this day there were two 747’s outside at the Polar hanger with one in it and five others arrived during my time there, an Evergreen was supposed to be due but didn’t turn up.

The Volga Dnepr AN124 UR-82078 came up to Prestwick arriving at 4-05pm and it’s just left about 15 minutes ago (midnight).

I wish the AN225 had done that same.

Yes Peter the first Clip was at Crash gate 3 and a bit tricky to pan it when it was touching down, I bumped the fence a couple of times hence the wobbly bit as it slowed down.

The second was shot at the other end as it left.

The Martinair A320 was in to pick up Dutch Military personel that arrived a couple of days ago on the Netherlands Air Force Fokker 60.

I was when pointing my camera at the Martinair A320 that I discovered my Canon 10D had died, not a jot of power so I had to take it to Glasgow and put it in for repair and missed the AN12 as well. £149 plus VAT, Ouch.

The LTE was a diversion from Prestwick in early morning due to low visibility there which cleared up quite quickly, there was also a Wizz A320 as well.

Yes subscribing to Photobucket was so easy and it was very simple to upload pictures and copy and paste the IMG URL into my Post.

Actually I had forgot that 1024px pictures would create a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen (well it does on mine), I’ll remember that in future after I finish uploading the Berlin shots.

    Peter,
It rained each day including a cracking Thunderstorm on the Friday evening just after we got into the Resturant.

On a different subject can anyone tell me how to attach photos as full sized ones rather than thumbs? I can’t find the info on how to do that.

Yes I went out on an Easyjet A319 on Thursday morning and came back yesterday (Sunday) mid afternoon, it was about 50% full Outbound and roughly 80% coming back probably because it was the Holiday weekend.

I got these three through the window including the Pulkovo 737 that was parked up beside the Tower.
