She was never fitted with wing hard points from new as far as i know and certainly not fitted on this rebuild.
I see they have changed the exhausts again.
Good news,another one saved.
I Cant help but have a guess what is hiding at scampton.Awkward to move erm,god no its a short stirling!
XS451. Exeter airport then Thunder City SA.
Always wondered where it went, thank you. Alan
What happened to the former r.a.f newton lightning that was used i think for weapons training. My dad used to deliver goods there in the 70s and on a couple visits with him during the school holidays i actually saw it.God was i impressed!!
I seem to recall seeing a Miles type – possibly a Whitney Straight – in the same hangar as the Spitfire XIV – is that right?
Possibly although i dont know for certain, its a question for tony t i think.
I thought the last Spitfire based over in that part of the world was MT719 🙂
If you mean east midlands airport,rolls-royce have had a small hangar there for many years housing first there mk14 and since its purchase the former bbmf pr19.There is or was a boeing stearman based there as well but dont know of any other spits. If you go back some years a company rebuilt several Spitfires there under the name of Trent Aero.
Yes, it’s getting repaired as we speak, will be back soon. 🙂
Has she stayed at EMA or gone back to duxford tony?
I,m sure i saw her at one of the TODAYS PILOT fly ins held at nottingham airport some years ago.
Just had a yak52 flying south pararell to the new A46 duel carridge way east of nottingham.
I live a long way from red arrow territory but at about 4-30pm this afternoon to the east of nottingham four white vertical smoke trails were seen which tailed off in a northerly direction.Did any body else see this?
We have a automotive paint supplier near us who will gladly mix any b.s colour in a variety of paint types and finishes in both cans and aerosol.
From my side of the fence its a tough subject to voice an opinion on.Wheather it should be restored or not.what colour it should be or hang it back up or have it on the ground.Do the general public care as to what configuration it currently is or will be when its returned to london i would think proberbly not.As the colour scheme goes it is unique but what can be learned from it?I dont know which way i would go with it,the paint scheme is an original finish but does not come from the original build so a re-paint to its first squadron will ruin its heritage and turn it into just another Spitfire or leave as it is so the general public look at it as just a Spitfire, tough one to call for me.
Why,whats wrong with the old ones…? She is a very good singer though, that song she,s done with the jools holland big band is just great! Now where,s my coat….
