Trident going into AirSpace on Feb 10th for a repaint too…airliners this year will be possibly looking better than they ever have done. Only the 10 really needs some paintwork but resources are finite.

No this is not the case.

VT was officially owned by Monarch for many years after arrival at Duxford but once it was realised this was the case (everyone had forgotten with the passing of time, retirements etc.) ownership was transferred to DAS.

The Ambassador will be outside all year round, in perpetuity, as with the rest of the airliners. Only way this will ever change is a rich benefactor with 15-20 million going spare and a very persuasive manner.

DAS does what it can with the volunteer human resources it has at its disposal – mostly retirees. It is not the IWM. The red on the Trident wings and the BEA logos on fin and stairs were refreshed last year, as were the intake blanks. The ally was polished on the wings.

Last spring hundreds of pounds were spent on her professional washing and that will be done again this spring if budget is approved. This removes the algae buildup and last summer the white upper surface looked pretty good.

Pffff…just one ghost?

At Duxford we get stacks of ghosts of kids from the ’40s – running around all the time in their period dress. They even arrive by coach!

Poor little beggars obviously copped it during the blitz.

And also the American Air Day is not shown ? They should think of some new items to get people through the doors,like running up the Raf Phantom as they used to years ago

The Phantom was privately owned at that time (OFMC), so it wasn’t the IWM that taxied it but its owners.

The spring airshow has been extended to two days in lieu of the autumn airshow, a move to improve revenue ie profits in light of funding cuts of the last few years.

I’m not an armchair expert, thanks. I have a degree in physics, my undergraduate thesis was completed at my local hospital and included designing a brachytherapy beam filter and writing a program which displayed dose profiles for a caesium afterloading system (look it up). Consequently I worked with linear accelerators up to 25MV (radiotherapy) and many types of detector . I’m trying to get some idea of the real risk involved – which I think is very small indeed. For that, you need to know absorbed dose (Gy/Sv).

So politely – take your condescending comment and insert it where the sun don’t shine.
