IMO our defence establishments must open their eyes to the benefits of reverse engineering…like doing it to the Mirages and Mig-29’s we alredy have and putting in our advanced aveonics into it…thus saving us several billions of dollars of foreign exchange.
Tit for tat, eh …LOL
boy do i love anglo-french tussles 🙂

THE POINT IS THAT THE US HAS SAID THAT IT WILL NOT SUPPLY BVR MISSILES TO PAKISTAN
The F-16’s that pakistan is getting is BVR capable no doubt, but this capability will not be explioted.
And it is almost impossible to fit the SD-10 to it…..and the US must have that aspect covered in the contract as well because they were very unhappy when the pakistanis tried to fit their block 15 F-16’s with some chinese missiles(copied from the pythons)
Anyone please tell me if you can find any aircraft in Bangalore, India ??
I dont seem to be able to zoom in here >> http://maps.google.com/maps?q=alberta+canada&ll=27.919222,-15.388230&spn=0.003711,0.004760&t=k&hl=en , help 🙁
I find it silly for any country to buy F-16’s without any BVR missiles when they are facing one that is well intergrated with BVRAAM’s.
The JF-17 bight offer more capabilities than an F-16 that can only fire sidewinders against Mig-21 bisons that fire R-77’s.
Without BVR missiles, the capability of an F-16 block 52 that pakistan has bought will fall short of the capabilities of the latest BVR capable Mig-21 bison with the latest new aveonics, cockpit and weapons.
LCA may get Kaveri engine by 2006 end

LCA with Kaveri engine to be operationalised in 2009: DRDO
———
bloody GE : trying make a quick buck instead of helping on the Kaveri developmetn
General Electric is offering India a dedicated more powerful version of the F404 for the production TEJAS. Designated F404-GE-IN20, this offers 20,000lb thrust (9070kg, 89.1kN) with afterburning. The new version would use elements of the RM12 derivative of the F404, built by Volvo Flygmotor for the JAS 39 GRIPEN, as well as a FADEC similar to the system as used on the F414 engine which equips the F/A-18E/F Super HORNET.

Voices from the Parliament (Rajya Sabha)
In order to expedite the Kaveri engine development, DRDO has explored the possibility of partnership with other leading manufacturers. Expressions of Interest have been sought from all reputed military engine manufacturers to assess the level of interest in such a proposal.
DRDO has reviewed and assessed that, in it’s current stage of maturity, significant risk reduction in the program may accrue through a partnership in engine development and production to meet production release goals of Kaveri by 2009.

Looks like an engine blow up ???…what does it look like to you guys ??

Could this be a pic showing the engine failure that resulted in one of the 2 J-10 crashes (one confirmed, one speculated):( 🙁 🙁 ????????
The first actual flight of the J-10 might have taken place two years earlier – in mid-1996 – but suffered from an engine malfunction with unknown consequences. In late 1997 the second flying J-10 “1002” prototype was lost in a crash which also killed the chief test pilot. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Here’s what happened in 2002
India: Powell to Tell India He Opposes Arrow Sale
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell is expected to tell Indian officials later this week that he opposes Indian efforts to import the Israeli Arrow missile defense system, the Washington Post reported today (see GSN, May 16). Powell has said he plans to visit India and Pakistan to discuss regional tensions (see GSN, July 10).
Israel uses Arrow to defend against short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles. Because Israel developed the system jointly with the United States, Israeli officials must obtain U.S. approval to sell it to other countries such as India and Turkey, according to the Post.
The Bush administration has not yet decided whether to approve the sale to India, but high-level officials are considering the proposal, a Pentagon official said. The administration plans to inform Israel of its decision “fairly soon,” a senior State Department official said.
Department officials oppose the proposed sale out of concern that India’s acquisition of the system could increase tensions in South Asia, where Pakistan and India in recent months raised international concern that they might go to war.
“We have concerns about the introduction of more missiles into this area,” the State Department official said. “It could be destabilizing.”
“Were India to proceed with an investment in missile defense, one thing is certain,” said Karl Inderfurth, former assistant secretary of state. “Pakistan will respond in some fashion, either by increasing its offensive capability to counter such a defensive shield or by pursuing its own form of missile defense wherever they could obtain it. That is an iron law of the action-reaction cycle in South Asia.”
State Department officials are also concerned that the sale might harm U.S. efforts to prevent missile proliferation, according to the Post. They worry that it would send the wrong message to Russia, China and other weapons exporters at the same time that the Bush administration has made nonproliferation a priority.
Another potential concern is that selling the Arrow system might violate the 1987 Missile Technology Control Regime, of which the United States is a member (see GSN, July 10).
“We have some issues we need to sort through, particularly how the sale relates to the MTCR. That’s an open question,” the Pentagon official said.
Sale Supporters
Several Pentagon officials and others have said they support approval of the sale. Some said they do so out of general support for Israel, which could make a good profit, and some have argued that allowing the sale would be in line with U.S. President George W. Bush’s advocacy of missile defense and efforts to cooperate on missile defense with other countries, the Post reported.
“We certainly understand India’s interest in missile defense,” the Pentagon official said.
Proponents of the sale to India have also said it could improve U.S.-Indian relations and reward India for backing down from a confrontation with Pakistan (see GSN, June 24).

Unkil willing to bend a little bit more for us
US willing to address reliability issue regarding defence deals
The US wants to dispel the notion that it is an unreliable partner concerning defence deals. According to sources, “The US agrees that at the political level there is a signal that it is willing to address this issue.”
New Delhi has acknowledged that the US remains the source of some big technologies, therefore, the two countries are moving towards taking defence ties beyond the realm of joint military exercises.
“India provides a very good platform for outsourcing some component manufacture or joint production” the sources said.
The United States embassy officials told FE that the US administration was upbeat and open about developing tie-up with India on sales and transfer of technology in strategic arms field and disclosed for the first time that since January 2002, the United States arms and systems sales to India had touched almost a $1 biLLIon.
“So far 1,320 licences for arms hardware worth $300 million and 156 agreements worth more than $688 million had been authorised,” the officials said. “With the state department going fully electronic by year end, we expect arms sales licence clearance to be shorter than present 14 to 15 calender days,” they added.

Look at this “fast one” that the IAF pulled off 😆
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is not interested in American F-16 or F-18 aircraft as they are prone to human error-related accidents, said sources citing Air Marshal PS Ahluwalia.
Sources said that Ahluwalia, director general of Inspection and Air Safety, gave a presentation to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), where he showed that human error-related accidents in the F-16s had occurred more frequently than in Mirage 2000s.
The IAF was finding difficulties in managing the 20 different types of aircraft and would not like to add new makes of aircraft that would complicate the inventory further.
However, Ahluwalia also said the IAF would not like to depend on a single supplier. “It may not be prudent to put all our eggs in one basket, but it would reduce the efforts in terms of maintenance practices by opting for a familiar supplier,” said the air marshal hinting that not only the US firm Lockheed Martin’s F-16s and F-18s are not in the reckoning but even Sweden’s SAAB would not be able to sell its Gripen to India.

So what this Block 70 made of ? Anybody..
F-16C block 70 = Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar capable of interleaving air-to-air, air-to-ground and terrain following modes, providing high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) ground imaging and capable of automatic terrain following; Infra-Red (IR) detection kit and a formidable Electronic Warfare (EW) suite. The “package” may include an impressive array of US air-to-air and air-to-ground weaponry and the incorporation of “aerodynamic” aluminium Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFT) that “blend” nicely with the upper fuselage, which will ensure long-range and endurance with unaffected aerodynamic performance.

What is this HJT-39? Is this one flown in the recent paris airshow..
No the one that flew at the Paris air show was the HJT-36 Sitara. It is designated IJT or Intermediate Jet Trainer.
This is the IJT- HJT-36 sitara :
The CAT is the combat advanced trainer and is an AJT (Advanced jet trainer) and is in the same league as the BAe Hawk.
For pics & details of the CAT visit : http://www.protonriver.com/library/air/cat.php
Regards,
Stealth Spy 🙂
Yeah we must take Russian help to make out new CAT, so that it comes out on/before schedule and to ensure that it dose’nt end up like the LCA.
And The Super Hornet is way better than the Block 70 F-16…i mean its as obvious as the fact that the Su-30 MKI is way better than the latest mig.
and also, the version of the F-16 offered to India is an exclusive never before one and will be called block 70.
60 million $ 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮
No thanks.
I doubt if Iran even has the technology to make a mockup of that
