Give a 3+3 seating arragement I strongly believe that being in the middle seats I would notice a 2 inch increase for the whole cabin. For the man in the middle it is practically 0,6 in more room.

That plane will kill the ugly A380 – I hope

Yet Boeing is lying a bit. they are calculating the costs per seat. An A380 on the other hand offers a higher number of business and first class seats, so even if the seat is more expensive oer km, it will in the end make more profit.

The pods are a Thomson-CSF Raphael SKAR, a ELINt pod by Mitsubishi based on the Astac and a LOROP pod AFAIK.

You are right the APQ-172 should have no AIM-7 capability.

I don´t see any US grip on latin-america. Brazil can order space launches from whoever they like. They can get satelites from whoever they like. They have access to the technology, so why wasting money in it.
What stops latin america from buying space launches from Russia, China or Europe. I mean you can even get a soviet rocket launched from Koru already.

Sorry but considering the overflow of launch possibilities world wide another space programm is a pure waste of money. Only good for the national ego, but surely a commercial adventure with little hope of success.

The question is not if Brazil can develope or not fighters or Airplanes but how can Brazil achieve the fastest way of adquiring technology to compete commercially with the stablish superpowers.
The Su-35 in fact are not so important but the technology transfer and that is what matters, France has in South America the Arianne laucher space pad so Alcanta in Brazil is the closest competitor to it for such a reason the French bid does not includes technical help to the Brazilian space program, also Avibras is 100% Brazilian and it`s main products are Missiles therefore the Russian offer is better for the Brazilians but since Brazil still is a peaceful country and France has a big stake in EMBRAER the Brazilian Government still is undecided if go nationalistic or simply wait a little bit longer delaying the space program a little further but keeping the French Happy and therefore Embraer`s future but i feel the Brazil will find a way into the space faring nations.

Honestly speaking the braizilian aviation industry is more competitive in the commercial market then Russia today. Embraer is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world today.
I also doubt that the know-how is not there to built a brazilian fighter, the question is if it is worth the investment. The international fighter market is full of competitors already. While the market is limited. The number neeed for the Brazilian airforce is too low to justify a own fighter development. So the best thing is buying an forgein design and getting a licencse production or even a workshare in the whole programm.

And regarding to the space programm. I strongly disagree. Would it not be for state contracts no launch project would make money. And I doubt the brazilian would do any better. When it comes to contracts I don´t expect the russians or chinese to step bach and give the deal to Brazil.
And then you still have to fight the US system and Ariane space.
So in the end it will be another overly nationalistic programm, that has only limited chance of commercial success.

The same as a home grown jet fighter.

I would go for an used plane solution for the time being and then try to get a share in other programms for future. JSF is a done deal, but perhaps they could get a workshare in Pak-Fa or in EF for Tranche 3.

Imagine a 50 planes Tranche 3 EF buy, with local production and the brazilian industry supplying parts for other Tranche 3 EFs and possible export sales.

Therte is nothing wrong with having pics on your hard drive. However posting them on a forum it is quite like publishing them for the public. In that case I still thin it is sensible to give credit when possible or at least state that the pics have been made by various photographers.

It is so dark Erez you can hardly make out any detail.

    @ PII

AFAIK the recce converted F-4E should have kept the old radar, which was AIM-7 capable. The new one should be as well.

I think it was more or less a question of the same price category.. If I have 30.000 dollars for a new car, I make my categories according to my budget, not according to tech specs of weight.. I won’t put Ferrari F355 into the same category with a Chrysler Neon, just because the weight is similar, don’t you think?

It was an obvious question.. we got that and that much moola, what can we afford for this?

Exactly, but because of that it is no surprise that the SU-35 won all technical competitions. It must do so, as the competitors are simply not in the same league.

Yet there is more to fighter contract then this.

Industry wise the Russian off-set deal is risky. The space industry is already offering more launch vehicles then there is a commercial need. So a brazilian space programm could be set up, but would it make money ?? In the end it would be in competition with the US, Europe, China and later India. The French deal however would be directly benificent for Embraer and the brazilian industry.

Furthermore the SU deal would also mean giving money to SU to develop the RRJ. Which would be a direct competitior to the brazialin EMB-170-195 series. So the money would indirectly help to bring up a competitor for the local industry.

Imho they should go for option b and buy used interim planes. And then they should save for a later competition for a bigger buy of fighters in 10 years or so.

I bet that in that time they could get Rafales or EFs for the price and even get a huge share for a new Airbus product for their industry.
