Yes, usually large tankers circle outside indian country. Only fighterbomber buddy-buddies go inside. Tankers should get a warning from AEW or ground based radar that somebody vectors on them early enough to make it to save ground or CAP cover. Interesting question remaining (against major powers only) is, what they could do against very long range AAMs (or SAMs) with satellite-linked mid course update.
