Most funyn thing is that people believe the new intakes are stealthy, while the smae people doubt that the Typhoon has a reduced RCS for the front section.

Just thing about the airflow and about the compressor blades, and then you will see which is more stealthy.

And then an Indian city will explode in a huge fireball.

After that more pakistani cities will turn to dust, then some more Indian cities. In the end the whole area will be full of radiation with millions of dead people and 2 destroyed nations. Millions of people dying from radiation sickness, a long an painfull death. The survivors will suffer from cancer over decades and even the next generations will suffer from the effects of the radiation. Large areas of both countries will be so full of radiation that they will not be safe to life in for years or decades. And many neighbouring countries will also be affected by the radioactive fallout.

What a wonderfull victory for Pakistan or India.

    matt,

nice data about the Tungsta, but the range given is only viable in a desert enviroment that offers no natural cover. Add some hills or trees or buildings and the range against a good flown AH in nap of the earth is virtually more then 2-3 kms. And even then getting a lock on will be hard.

I once had a chnace to witness to german PAH-1 helicopters surprising a US Army SAM Battery. The helos remained undetected until they showed themselves 300m from the SAM site.

But as I said, the most important factor in that equitation is the terrain. If the terrain offers cover an helo has a good chance to remain undetected from ground based systems, if it is a terrain without cover, then the helo is much more in danger.

I presume that any Indian drive into Pakistan would happen in the desert areas, as they offer less cover for the defender and alow the Indians to use their superior engagement range, the AH-1s would be facing a serious threat.

Also I think that the main threat will be the Phalcons and IAF fighters. Especially as Indian fighters equipped with modern BVR missiles can egange the helos without entering the threat envelope of manpads and other light air defences.

Vortex sure I know, that there might be some problems to overcome when fitting an EJ2000 to the Tornado. But reengining the SU will also not be without problems.

AFAIK there were some design studies done on fitting the F.3s wit the EJ2000, but these were dropped because of cuts in the force structure.

Tungstas are no problem for the AH-1, when the pakistan ermy is using them as mobile anti armour teams. If the AH-1s stay behind friendly lines and just engage the tanks that are close to friendly lines, Tungsta wonΒ΄t be able to do much about it. To engage the helos would mean to bring the Tungstas well forward, which in case would mean that they could easily become targets for tanks or ground based missile teams.

Pakistani AH-1s will stay within the friendly air defence umbrella and flying nap of the earth. When using this tactic they will be hard to hit.

I doubt they will croos into enemy territory to look for targets, as they would face manpads, SAMS, AAA, helos and fighters. That is too much risk for your best and most mobile anit armour weapon.

-> Not every one is using AHs in the way the US Army does. πŸ˜‰

I remember some RAF crews complaining that the Tornado features extremely low agility and maneuvrability during the high speed low passes which makes it almost impossible to perform a high g turn as an evasive manbeuver against SA-2 or SA-3.

Regarding the Fencer, IIRC, one big drawback is the lack of an automatic wing sweep system. The operator or pilot can vary the wing sweep only manually and he only has four positions to choose from..

I disagree. Only the Tornado was doing the low level airfield attacks in the first nights of Desert Sttorm. No Jaguar was doing ths mission. Furthermore the Jaguar was more operating in Kuwait TO, while the Tornados were operatin in Iraq itself. So they were facing a higer risk. After changing to midlevel tactics (the Jaguar did so from the start) the Tornado looses went down and became comparable to other planes operating in the same area.

I think he means the following.

US Army uses its helicopters for battle field interdiction – “deep” strike missions, which means that they try to use their AHs to attack enemy forces before they actually reach the fighting and friendly ground forces.

PAK is using their helos as extremely mobile, anti tan / fire support systems. More like the ARAs in Nam. Mostly operating above or behind friendly lines. Target detection is mostly handled by the ground troops that point out the targets to the helos.
For that mission an AH-1F is sufficent.

TOW is still ok, what they need would be a efficent air to air missile for those helos, as they will most probably operating within a very high threat from enemy fighters and helos.

The purchase of modern helos (be it russian, european, or american) would need money, that should be spent else where.

I always wondered why Pakistan did not go for Roovialk, but that is another question.

Just a thought. Obviously you could fit the RB.199 to the Typhoon. So it should be possible to fit the EJ2000 to the Tornado. πŸ˜€

My vote for the SU-24 is without an engine update. It is just because it is the sexiest of those planes.

    HArd to say.

SU-24s offer a good range and with the latest updatess it is surely an impressive weapons system.

F-111 is nearly out of service (forget the australian exampels) and has only developed until the early 90s. So it lacks 10 years of development today. But is was cistly to operate, but also performed well when called to action. (IIPGW, Strikes on Lybia, ..)

Tornado. Hmm, a cold war relict. Special designed for the one way missions of a WW3 in europe. Good at ultra low level, underpowered at medium at high alltitudes. Maintencane is getting a problem on those planes. But it can carry lots of weapons. Anitship, anit-radiation, LGBs, JDAM, Brimstone, Storm Shadow, Taurus.

My vote still goes to the SU-24.
