Love the angle on the KLM 330 Steph
Yeah, looks like a flypast at an airshow.
Thanks for the comments guys. I think that was the worst airline sandwich I’ve had. Sabena used to have some pleasant ones, and occasionally SNBA and certainly VLM, but that took the biscuit for being foul! My Mum had egg mayonnaise and she said that was OK.
Must be absolute LUXURY when compared to the rolls they gave us on Tarom in 1989. These were like cricket balls!! You don’t have to risk bringing a weapon on board when they happily give you a roll that you could bludgeon someone with.
Couple of points for anyone reading with the intention of going over to there for a spotting trip. NYO is indeed a pretty dead place but if you come out of the terminal and walk along to the left you’ll see a couple of hangars where some of the yellow target towing Lears and Mu2s live. Also there should be one or two Coastguard CASA 212s hanging around.
If anyone is looking for a cheap place to stay when over to Stockholm on a trip, there’s a Formule 1 within walking distance of the
T-Bana system. You pass it on the way to Stockholm on the airport bus. It’ll be basic, as Formule 1s are, but it does the job and is only 5 minutes walk to Telefonplan t-bana station (on the red line – destination Fruängen). There’s a 24 hour Micky D’s across the road if you are a bit peckish after coming back in from the pub.
Nothing really to write home about for the flight… landing was as you would expect with Ryanscare, slammed down hard onto the runway, (it was my first time flying through heavy snow while landing)

Lucky they don’t operate Dash 8 400s eh ?
Good wee report there Comet.
ERJ135 …. that would have done nicely for me. I haven’t flown in any jet Embraers. Only prop ones. One Xingu and many a Bandeirante.
Ver nice shots of the 96 !
I haven’t been to LGW for ages. Always thought there was too much in the way to get any ground shots at the 26 end. Is this just from the normal road ? What size of lens did you need ?
Very nice! Just happens that my favourite 3 shots are all the TAP ones. The night shot looks like a clip from an animation. Looks like a good place.
Great selection there !!
Good wee selection Rab. Couldn’t work out what you meant by BEATLE on #1 … then on close examination of the photo I saw a tiny John Lennon title up front. Good un of the starlings taking a bath.
Woody
Good selection of shots there. Did you see it happening or did you get there after the event ?
I see you have found fame! Photo #2: When did BA start putting
“Andrew Simpson 2008” titles on their planes ?
Why are forecasts of poxy weather always accurate?
A very good question! And the Spanair in your shots has the cheek to be called “Sunlight”.
Nice one Barry, I keep hearing and seeing the Salzburg is aviation phot heaven, some great Russian types flying in and out. I see from one of your shots there are a lot of photographers (Photo 9). Is that on the airport or just outside the fence? I guess you would need to be there very early to get a good spot.
Si
The people in that photo are outside the fence at a spot on the corner where things leave the apron to taxi up to 34. All along the fence there are plenty of places so no need to be there at sparrow’s to get a place. The terrace is a different story … very busy from early on with lots of tripods set up for night shots.
Here’s a part of the perimeter. See, not to crammed. The bunch of folk in the photo #9 are on another small mound behind the mound you see in my pic here. Only busier there because it clears the fence … a million places available to those with steps.
And to show how persevering folk were …. here’s a shot of the terrace, taken from the GAT at 16:20 when the rain was coming down. Excuse the pic quality but it was a long range one with the light giving f/3.2 at a fortnight (well…. 25th of a second).
330, the sunrise is three shots taken in succession and joined as a panorama.
Excellent shots on both threads. Seems like a good place for photography.
Cheers Tom. There are numerous possibilities for photography all around the airport, and the vantage points can be easily reached without a car. And of course, a nice background. Sunshine would have been good.
I was expecting something completely different in this thread…
I was probably expecting the same thing. Pics of it ON the day.
Good show getting it down with no fatalities and managing to get within the perimeter! Bad time to lose power at that stage of flight… there are not many options. Limited height to play with and fair amount of drag.
