Sort of on topic (ish)
Not sure if this has been posted before, my apology’s if it has, but recently discovered cine film shot right after the dams raid, in German, but you’ll get the drift I’m sure.
& an appraisal from a mate of mine who speaks very good German
The Eder dam film footage was very good. The footage was shot by a marine officer on home leave who had been an amatuer cameraman for 30 years , this was taken one hour after the attack by our brave blue jobs ! 47 people died in the immediate area , the 1st village down stream from the Eder dam had a loss of 10 civilian deaths plus livestock, with particuler damage to the school and church (propagander) . The man with the camera was the son of the camera man ,the camera and the roll of film are originals however the camera started to go a bit **** up in the 50s so he took it too his friend a Herr Shaffer who fixed it for him and noticed the film of the Eder dam , he asked his friend if he could have a copy, which he granted on condition that he does’n’t show anyone the film while he was still alive . The camera and film outlasted the camera man !
Glad this thread has popped up for some air again.
Found a pic of a Hastings on the burning area on a RAF firemans site-

In fact the whole site is worth a look see.
A picture of XM715 getting some off road action at St Mawgan at the 1975 airday can be found on page 83 of Robert Jacksons V Bombers book 😉
A suprise visitor to St Mawgan was this Galaxy, if memory serves correctly it went tech & set down during the airday (early 70’s I think), took this pic the next day, well tried to, mother thought I was taking her picture 😀

the number is 70173
& a couple more, much earlier, maybe late 50’s?

& another one from my late fathers collection-
Unsure of the year, looks to be a Shack AEW2 at VAHS & a Canberra, so mid 70’s ish?

Somewhere on the web there is a lovely shot of south pan taken from a Nimrod taking off, you can see the the two T.19s parked next to each other.
These ones Pagey?
I nicked these off some guy called Commander Powell, I sort of remember they weren’t his shots either so I have no idea if they have any copyright attached to them, I’ll remove them at the first wiff of a complaint.

Outstanding:cool:
Perranporth, just down the road:D
The panic situation would have had him rolling with laughter.
heh heh heh:) I remember that, bought a smile to my face too.
Herr doctor, is the pic dated?
Unfortunately not Cmdr, the guestimate on date was made by the members of 42 there present & the Canberras in the background & the old mans memory, which at the time of asking was pretty good.
I belive it might be 😀 – listed in Shackleton WR977 – Dedication To Duty as WR977!
Well I did send a copy of it to Rob for the book plus a shed load of log book scans;)
From the records I had at the time & Dads (unfortunately now departed this mortal coil) input we deduced that 977 was the most likely candidate, when examining the nose code it appears to be B.
If memory serves rightly, I believe DrStrangelove was driving this yellow beast, and I am referring to the S26!
Ahh good old FLT 7, a fine vessel that one:D
Now long gone unfortunatly:(
I’m not that up on aircraft serials at all but does R5868 mean anything? I had heard that that airframe was returning to the air.
Only joking:o:D
A St Mawgan thread wouldn’t be complete without dusting off this old fave of mine:D
42Sqn Aircrew in front what may well be WR977.
Note what appears to be (7 sqn perhaps) Canberras in the background.

I was lucky enough to go to work with Dad on a few occasions & got quite a few Nimrod Sim hours in, at first the whole thing was about reliable as British Rail, the massive tape data banks putting Star Trek to shame, the old man likened working there to being on the dole, he’d phone up in the morning to see if it was working, if it wasn’t he’d spend the rest of the day at home.
