So David does that just leave the Hellcat to fly from the TFC or does the Sea Fury still need to be permited yet ?
i miss the Brettling fights display 4 different aircraft beets anything i have seen the Horesman do in the UK, but i do think Duxford has been short of a really good Mustang tail chase in the last few years
I don’t know if this is the right place or not for this. The Eagle Squadron that has been put together for the spring DX show according to Fly Past Mag will tour some of the bases around East Anglia on the Monday. In the magazine one of the transits is between North Weald and Leiston passing North Ipswich, i wash just wondering if anyone can say if they will fly over/past Martlesham Heath and if so some would anyone be able to say an approximate time they may fly bye please ???
Does anyone else agree with me that the Duxford Experience is somewhat blunted by the rather poor and over priced catering facilities on offer? My visit to The Mess Restaurant yesterday left me wondering what overseas visitors would make of it. I had a scone with jam and cream, a bottle of fruit flavoured water and a small tub of ice cream. Total cost GBP 8.50 which seemed a bit steep given the minute portions. The Duxford scone cost 2.00 (M & S Café 1.30), cream 1.00 (M & S Café 0.50) and jam 1.00 (M & S Café 0.35). The Mess is not M & S I know but why the premium? The restaurant is long established on that site and in an ideal position almost next to the Visitor Centre main entrance. It should be better and I recall that in the early days it was.
Apart from that I had a terrific experience yesterday. The highlight had to be the sight of all the ex Lambeth gems shoe horned into one hangar.
Have you brought a can of Coke at Covent Garden lately £ 1.50 the last time i was there and that was October last year ?
Do any of the Duxford regulars know when Princess Elizabeth is due to arrive please
dont think they will have anything modern there due to budget constraints !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but Princess Elizabeth back in the sky’s over-here :):D

Nice one Steve!
Are DVDs of past years still available? I had hoped to fill in a few gaps in my collection when I recently made my first visit to Duxford for quite a while, but was disappointed to find that they don’t seem to stock them in the IWM shop any more. 🙁

you could always use wash off paint like they did for the Merlin’s over Malta Spitfire
Indeed it was display item No.6, with the Attacker behind being item No.20.
Item No.9 sounds like a tasty display.
Rob
as does no 17 :diablo:
Another photo has come to light from the Duxford event on 24-8-75, showing the whole group of aircraft. Sally B was not flown due to lack of crew, and the P-51 was the static ‘Big Beautiful Doll’.
Thanks to Steve Carter for providing the picture, which is a scan of a print of a slide, hence the poor quality. Its origin is uncertain, but may be another of Mark Miller’s photos.
Cor what a line up, like 2008 Legend’s heavy’s line up i dought we will ever see anything like that again here in the UK 🙁
Duxford Sunday 17th March:
I was lucky enough to catch today’s public preview of the new ‘Historic Duxford’ exhibition. The old Watch Office building in front of Hangar 3 has been transformed into new exhibition space. Together with a Heritage Trail featuring significant points around the airfield, the story of Duxford as a military station between 1918 and 1961 is related, both with traditional displays of historic objects, and cutting edge audio-visual presentations designed to appeal to all ages.
Today was a one-off preview, the exhibit will open on March 28th, just before the Easter weekend. Highlights to look for include a re-creation of the Watch Office from the late 30s, plenty of wonderful details:Personal stories are featured strongly, and my eye kept going back to the cases containing (amongst other items), George ‘Grumpy’ Unwin’s medals, Douglas Bader’s uniform and a 78th FG flight jacket belonging to Lawrence Casey. Plus, you can try on RAF uniforms and learn to salute!
There is a lot of interesting background on the IWM ‘Historic Duxford’ blog at:
Now ive got a job am planning to go Good Friday so looking forward to having a good look round 😀
