Errr what was I talking about??
Engineering vs history…somewhere this thread has,……:diablo:
3D Spits
Hi Qldspitty,
Thanks for posting the link to the site. I see he (Justin?) is in the very early days of modelling the spitfire.
It’s going to take an incredible amount of time, I will be interested to check on the progress in his 3D modelling.
Cheers I think Justin (aka Speedy) started a bit later than us and we are doing it in different ways and with different formats..We are doing it from the inside out and he is doing it from the outside in.Hopefully we will meet in the middle somewhere..;)
There are other guys in the world heavily involved in keeping the Spitfire alive by converting the aircraft into digital format. With Justins site I hope we can get them all together in one place to share ideas and designs to fill in the gaps and get things done quicker..:)
Hi Justin,
Sites looking good mate..Will try send you some designs to help fill out the fuselage.A guests gallery would be a good idea to swap ideas.
The spar is hard but not impossible.Leading edge skins are .080″ and can be wheeled with an english wheel.Best way to do the glycol tank is to draw in 3D and get a CNC mill to cut a wooden buck. Then proceed to hammerform brass over the shape, rivet and solder together.
There is an online comic setup from France (I think??)that has commando like stories in it…Will try find a link…
Found it…

Edges must be polished first to prevent cracking…the flare is a slight curve and only about a quarter inch high.Make sure the dies don,t leave any marks that will create stress raisers.
very nice work, who will be making the “beast” to fit on that?
I am……trying too…
Also in need of a A.M (Spitfire) Crowbar, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think a vampire one is similar but in three sections.

Skills??
For the enlightenment of our non-industry readers, perhaps you could pass on something about your job. Maybe some might like to join you and keep the skills alive – or even use yours!
I thought hitting sheets of Ally with a big hammer and a lump of wood be classified as fun…
😀
Will do a write up of the skills involved soon as it,s getting way past bed time for me…Now where is my teddy…:dev2:
Ummmm,errrr
QldSpitty, do you mean the CA27 at Temora?
Yeah thats her…:o
Here in Australia,Spitfires,Boomerangs,P40,s and a Beaufort.Corsair and F86,probably a few others.Mark Pilkington or JDK would have a better finger on the pulse…
I,m a tin basher, does that count??A lot of the old skills are on there way out and just a select few keeping them alive.
If you don,t get any bites just send me a PM and I can help you out on the panels..
Knew I forgot something…Email on the way…
I think the Maus is a bitza with hull and turret off two different prototypes, still mystery surrounds if they were used in combat or not, defending the factory.I would think anything is possible as the amount of area still unsearched on the european continent, especially in the eastern block..Good hunting guys..
