Great story
Freebird
Just in case anyone is interested, John Aldington (BJ) delivered five of the six jets, while Paul Cooper delivered the other one.
I know its now a Jordanian military aircraft now, but when it had its one and only test flight it was still using its British civilian reg as its c/s, which I found interesting.
At the end of the day its a shame the Hunter’s days are now numbered.
Like most people I would love to see and hear a Gannet fly in the UK and if they want to bring this one across from the states, then that’s ok by me. Yes it would be nice if XL500 was also airworthy around the same time and then perhaps we could see both aircraft flying together. Unfortunately the last I heard from the owner was they were having a problem getting the props serviced, because the tools needed to complete the work, could not be found. Maybe someone out there has an update on the props issue?
Guys
Just a thought but didn’t the Viscount have the same engines as the Argosy and if so were the props the same?

Does anyone know why the Hunter has gone to Sweden?

The story doing the rounds is that the local council gave them a good deal with the rent of the hangar for the first year, then the rent would increase after the first twelve months. But the story goes they have not been paying the rent and they had been told to vacate the hangar.
All in all a mess and no-one wins in the end.:apologetic:
Very well put Trolly Aux :applause:
A well deserved award to a good pilot and a really nice guy.:eagerness:

If you go onto GINFO it says the C of A permit expiry date is 16/02/2014
John Aldington was another good Lightning display pilot. He was also a bloody good Hunter display pilot.
I wonder if it will end up in the Ipswich area or Bentwaters?

The date was January 13th 1958 and not 1957. The unit was 32 MU and the pilots name was Flight Lieutenant James Wallace.
Hope this helps.

XL592 stored in hangar 52 at Exeter back in 2001. She sure looked in better condition back then.
