Thanks very much, guys.

Not much for me either (February 11th)
1939 – Lockheed P-38 flies from California to New York in 7 hours 2 minutes.
Although I do share a birthday with Damien Lewis, Thomas Edison and the nation of Japan! 😀
If you think this is bad then you should visit some other internet forums where the posters are mainly young teenagers.
I wonder how this policy of going off topic would be policed: what is going genuinely off topic and what is just letting the conversation drift? I’ll admit I am as responsible as anyone else in this regard, but I don’t think its a big problem.
This is still undobtedly one of the best forums on the internet.
true….
Perhaps a v.high altitude balloon of airship AWACS system then?
It was just a wild idea anyhow 😉
I’d go for the Jaguar from RAF service.
I think the latest the FAA could operate big jets was 1978/79, Phantoms and Bucs weren’t retired from the RAF until the early 90s, and Bucs were used in Desert Storm to carry laser designation pods for the Tonkas.
Don’t be ridiculous, think of all the excess capacity that would go unused, giving it huge extra running and maintainence costs, to say nothing of its size on the apron!
This is what they really need:

Now, to work on the receptacle system!
Artist’s impressions show the A400m with a probe:

Although I don’t see how designing a receptacle would be particularly challenging for EADS.
And if the RAF are purchasing some RC-135s, the need for a boom refueling capability is highlighted even more.
On a personal note, its the first time I’ve figured out how to post images, only took me 4 years! 😀
Which means it will probably never happen 😡
True, the number of RAF requiring aircraft would be very low, but how difficult would it be to have a few RAF boom operators train alongside USAF crews?
It would give the RAF much more flexibility for domestic and coalition operations for a comparatively trivial cost, given that an EADS boom for the KC-45 is already well on the way to being developed.
Edit: It might also be an important consideration when the F-35 comes into service, or is the F-35B being developed with a retractable probe? If not, then the RAF is displaying very poor future planning.
I did think it might be one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_length_launch
but the pic in post 2 gives it away!
It would also mean that the RAF would be able to air-air refuel the C-17s they have in service.
I guess common sense is in short supply in government run departments the world over.
It says ‘sorry, this video is no longer available’
I’ve been getting this all day on youtube, is it just me?
