Phantastic news!!
………
I’ll get my coat 😀
Although Chavez is a olympic gold medal winner at BS spewing, I don’t see him actually being able to get much out of this. What political capital does this event give him, other than just yet another platform to rant against America?
Can’t disagree with that, the Il-76 is a magnificent aircraft.
What Swerve says about the Jumbo is about right. The 747 shouldn’t have been where it was, but the Soviets were paranoid and less than diligent about dealing with the situation.
My thoughts were something like this, given the massive changes in the film.
I have to say though, it did look a lot cooler than a normal 737!

It seems incredible that not only would a pilot forget the undercarriage, but so did the co pilot and the tower didn’t spot anything wrong!
Than again people make mistakes…..
So Paveway II, Enhanced Paveway II, GBU-10 and GBU-16 aren’t effective air-ground weapons? :diablo: They’ve all been integrated.
Ah….:o ….. I guess I’m having an off day!
So has the whole fleet been cleared for this?
Thanks guys, mental glitch on my part; I did mean the AW149.
But still, although the ‘149 might be better for the army at the moment, it seems a waste to give up on Flynx now that it is so close to completion.
Would integrating systems into the ‘149 from the Flynx be feasible or could it turn into another Chinook HC.3?
Think of it this way:
You’re the commander of an airforce, your looking to buy either Rafale of Typhoon.
Do you go for the one that (potentially) might have a landing gear fault, and currently doesn’t have any effective air-ground capability or the one that is in service in Afghanistan supporting NATO and doesn’t have any suspicious little problems?
Whilst it is best for a nations strategic interests to keep production of vital equipment at home, it is simply more expensive.
If we want the same capability on an ever shrinking budget then off-the shelf may be something we have to do to save money on some projects.
Frankly, its appalling that the UK may be reduced to this, in my personal opinion defense industries in the Uk should be state owned and produce everything that we need and can afford, but there we are.
Actually, has anyone got a copy of the book ‘Black Buck’ about the raid on the falklands of the same name?
I think they had to navigate by the stars, or at least considered it?
Yeah, AW139 (or the AW149 if that ever gets going) would be perfect for the Army. I was joking about “EADS Eurocopter” as the article referred it to as there is no such type (other than a manufacturer owned by the other) and Eurocopter has no off-the-shelf helicopter for the task that it produces on its own other than the Cougar. Hence, why I thought that the journalist meant the NH-90 NFH.
Ah, yes… I should have actually read the article 😮
But on the Lynx note, I didn’t realise how far along it was. If it is indeed this close to finishing, I suppose we might as well go for it and hope we can secure some export orders too.
If they scrap Future lynx, I think it would be a good thing. Why develop a brand new aircraft when there are plenty of off the shelf types? It would save no end of money.
I’m not sure if they make the AW139 at yeovil, but I bet AW could be pursuaded to set up a line there, even if its just assembly.
Eurocopter is a subsidiary company of EADS, look them up on wikipedia for more info. The NH-90 is made by NH Industries, a partner company of Eurocopter, Agusta and Fokker
Welcome Sam!
I’m sure you’ll love it here!
Could the dome be something to do with collecting weather/ atmospheric data?
