If I were a taxpayer in the EU and therefore directly supporting the Airbus programs, I would want to know, it seems rather amazing that there is not more transparency.
The Airbus A380 would come far down the list of wasted money in the EU.

You do know that there is quite a difference between the GE-90 and the GE-90-115, including two additional compressor stages. In fact, it is part of the reason GE wanted to be sole engine supplier on the new 777 models, to recoup the development costs. It is interesting that no airline took the GE-90 on the standard 777-300.
To get the MTOW increase you would need to add the centre gear from the A340-200/-300.
For the last 20-30 years, PW and RR have been doing re-hashes and upgrades (like the Trent in RR’s case) while GE was setting the standard.
How many rehashes has the CF6 went through? :p
If GE has taught us anything with the CF6, is why mess with a good thing? RR have done the same with the RB211.
To me, an engine is an engine. The differences are for pilots and bean counters to distinguish.
Quite a lot of the orders have come from the west, ALC, ILFC, GECAS, CIT Aerospace, Virgin, Thomas Cook, JetBlue, and Republic.
Which episode was it that they had to put an advert in the ‘love’ column? James May had “…must have liberal attitude to motorcycle parts in the bath”. You can easily imagine that he would have parts in the bath.
It would be boring if it was just James May, equally, it would be boring without him, hmmm…

…now wish I had purchased the Beemer…
The BMW 1M is stonking, back to BMW M’s roots – big inline six, manual box and rear wheel drive. Only 450 coming to the UK.
I still think the new M5 is the daddy.

Thanks for taking the time Peter, some lovely stuff there. Shame about the big Boeings leaving. The ATR props are interesting, reminds you of Danish Air Transport.
Even in the financial boom times airlines where considered a bad investment, how do you think airlines are regarded now?
Can’t be that bad getting the investment, look at the size of the orders at PAS11. 😀
They can’t stop them from ordering, but I am sure they would be a lot more difficult if they did.
Sandy, you are right that a large proportion of the A320NEO orders came from existing Airbus operators, but is that surprising? As you say, no, but I hasten to add that I bet large Boeing operators are waiting to see what Boeing really does. I’d bet Boeing is in talks, and will bring something to the table that is causing these operators to wait.
Airbus are in the situation they want to be in right now, production slots filling up causing operators to sign-up earlier. Also, if AA were to come along now and order 100 NEOs, you can bet Airbus would find/make production slots.
I think the A320NEO only makes sense if your flying longer sectors. It is going to be heavier, and this is where Boeing might still win sales if they continue to tweak the 737NG.
