But honestly it saddens me to see i have no civil uses for aircraft like a MiG-29

the poor paint? stupid names painted on the side? oh wait I know now, how much hopes and dreams keeping them together!!!1

Now, now…those names are part of the history. What I find a stupid name is “Spirit of something” writen on the B-2 and (although it`s not military) “Dreamlifter” on the B747-LCF.

Not really. Air-combat will take place, where the intruders are to find. It is the attacker who does determine the level and speed of such combat. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree with Sens on this. The dogfight will take place wherever. There is no writen rule that they will take place at high altitude or low.

I don`t take these maneuvres as air show stunts. These “stunts” just show how maneuvrable the aircraft is. F-22 is maneuvrable, Su/MiG are menuvrable. The pilot can do whatever the heck he wants to the plane without the fear of stalling it. This is what I think these stunts prove.

LOL that reminds me of a story from Sierra Leone, one of their Mi-24 was unusable because … it lacked air conditioning! That Hind flew only very, very few sorties, after those missions the crew was totally devastated :p

I like the idea for an award! Naming it after a dictator who dug useless defense acquisitions will be a bit difficult though. They all like that stuff. But if we’d go for such a name, i’d suggest Dr. Elena Ceaucescu Defense Award because the woman was useless anyway.

The trophy will of course be a cuddly stuffed White Elephant with an approprate plaque. Heck, if it wouldn’t scoff potential advertisers I’m sure Key would be proud to host a nice award ceremony at next years’ RIAT. Invitations obviously sent out to the nominees…

Serbia acquiring a whopping one third of a dozen flatnose-Floggers definately is insane.

ROFLMAO!!!! You just made me laugh! The spelling is a little bit wrong. It`s Ceausescu, not Ceaucescu.

I`m amazed that people from other countries know about the Genius of Carpathians.

Frank Whittle decided to invent the a new flavor of Ice Cream instead of the jet engine.

Then the jet engines of today might`ve been a little different. Henri Coanda invented a jet engine some 30 years before Whittle.

Not sure how greatly reducing pilot and copilot visibility would improve the design…

Pilot visibility isn`t affected at all. Initially I thought that too, until I sat down in one of them (dolphin nose model).

And also you`d need a conversion for the crew to operate the new cockpit. Why spend money and time on the conversion when you already have crews that fly the helicopter in safe conditions with steam gages?

Also watching the picture some more, seems that the plane is somewhere in the transsonic region.

Hopefully this summer at Farnborough it`ll give a nice performance with lots of contrails. I`ll be there to watch it ๐Ÿ˜€
