Nice pics thanks for sharing, the Shack looks like it is still very well cared for.
ISTR that the Skyraider was ex Chad.
WL747 raises a good point, it would be great to have ‘nice’, ‘thanks’ or ‘like’ button on this forum (as others do), I feel with some of the photo threads that people are interested enough to look but not add comment.
Well the Spit at the end of the runway belongs to our very own Spitfireman, http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/member.php?u=7090:)
Puce, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puce, the colour shown in the top right of the Wiki page certainly isn’t far off some of the colour photos of the FD.2 that I have seen – however as has already been said these images suffer with vagaries of various older printings systems.
The opening image in the thread looks too dark too me (exposure wise, not shade wise). Another pic of WG774 in ‘puce’ here, http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.aviastar.org/pictures/england/fairey_fd-2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.aviastar.org/air/england/fairey_fd-2.php&h=227&w=452&sz=35&tbnid=zpkYzzUbFJD23M:&tbnh=64&tbnw=127&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfairey%2Bfd.2%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=fairey+fd.2&hl=en&usg=__IBCDTocLBn-oMmRwJC77mrni9eU=&sa=X&ei=Rnc6TuzgCYOxhAeOve2oAg&ved=0CBYQ9QEwAw
Well if Duxford’s reason for not having a Nimrod is hangar space then where are they going to put a Hercules ?
I’m wondering if that is why they want rid of the Shackleton?
Nice gaff, is that a 707 flightdeck in one of the arches?!

You’ve got way too much time on your hands Bob, and this coming from somene who’s favourite type is the Gannet!
They were searching for a serviceable prop bearing ISTR, but I think that has been resolved.
so the options are: Cut her up and move her like Hendons example thus wrecking any work that has been done
Aw a bit naughty Sadsack, XL318 was properly dismantled at Scampton, roaded to and rebuilt at Hendon by an RAF team with no wrecking of it at all, in fact it must have been quite a labour intensive and expensive task.
Pics here, http://www.avrovulcan.org.uk/XL318_dismantling/index.htm
I would certainly second the request to see the pictures scanned or individualy and squarely photo’d, be much appreciated if you have the time Brian.
The Pathfinder Liberator seems to have mods aswel, noticably to the nose area.
Gloster E5/34………….
But I thought it DID go into production.

I’ve always been interested by the Gloster F.5/34 / Mitsi A6M comparison, is there any documented evidence that one was influenced by the other, or just a case of designers coming up with a similar looking design?
I’m not sure more water will help with its reported corrosion issues!
Also weren’t major parts removed for NDT & spares use on XH558, or did all that come to nowt?
Fascinating set of pics and info Brian, I can honestly say that until now I never knew that the Marauder was used as a topedo bomber or wore Coastal Command colours!
The Me323 pic is indeed one of the most well known of the type and it’s amazing that you have bumped into the daughter of the photographer, the fact that he got reunited with some of the of the crew later on is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing
Indeed, here’s a nice little story involving John Isaacs and Viv Bellamy re-activating this Spit back in 1951, http://www.agentsmart.co.uk/blog/aviation/the-hampshire-aero-club-eastleigh-by-john-isaacs/
Abortion?! Surely this airframe has plenty of history of its own, I love the yellow and other civil schemes that it wore (such as in G-ORDYs’ lovely shot).
Big thread on G-AIDN here, http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?p=1614549
